Donnatal (phenobarbital atropine hyoscyamine and scopolamine) & Bentyl are prescription medications with known efficacy. Imo ibs is a functional problem caused by impingement of parasympathetic neural system within the pelvic presacral plexus. Pelvic girdle dysfunction from hypermobility is the culprit. Stress reduction.: Since the cause for ibs is unknown (some studies showed that people with ibs has lower pain threshold in the bowel) but stress is considered an important factor, stress reduction (meditation?) would be the first step. A high fiber diet and regular exercise may also help. There are medications to reduce the symptoms but you will need a doctor since response to drugs vary from person to person. ...Read more
