Myocardial Infarction (Definition)

Myocardial Infarction means some of the heart muscle dies because of insufficient oxygen supply. Most often this occurs because the coronary artery is blocked by plaque & clot. Other causes include tears in the artery wall, extremely high oxygen demand (eg, rapid arrhythmia, heart valve disorder, or severe systemic illness.) How can I prevent stomach bleeding whole taking Plavix, (clopidogrel)aspirin or similar? I have erosive gastritis and a DES after a heart attack.

Ppi: It's very important for you to take Plavix in the first few months post heart attack. I'm not sure if you have had any intervention including heart Cath and stent placement. But the concern I have is that u need to be on protective therapy for your stomach like PPI. I recommend to f/u with cardiologist on how long u need plavix and adaptor in but mean while u need PPI like protonix, nexium (esomeprazole). .. ...Read more

Can blood pressure indicate heart attack and bleed on the brain if so would it be high or low?

Can blood pressure indicate heart attack and bleed on the brain if so would it be high or low?

No, not reliably: Consequences of heart disease or stroke on blood pressure and visa versa, the effect of blood pressure on the heart or brain, is not uniform. Clearly markedly elevated blood pressure is a risk for stroke and increases the work on the heart, but patients with normal blood pressure can still experience a stroke or have a heart attack. There are many other factors to consider ...Read more

Hernia most common: Abdominal strain can lead to an internal hernia (groin, navel). That is the most common problem & occurs even if you are otherwise healthy. If you have heart or lung problems, or high blood pressure or a previous stroke, then its best not to exert yourself in this way since a heart attack or stroke can happen from exertion / raised BP. A car weighs more than 1 ton; pushing it around isn't e ...Read more

Can too much exercise lead to a heart attack?

Can too much exercise lead to a heart attack?

Pace yourself: Regular exercise lowers long-term risk by improving many heart risk factors. But if someone already has plaques & inflammation in their arteries, a heart attack could occur during exercise, esp if we overdo it like extreme weightlifting (which makes blood pressure shoot up) or getting very dehydrated racing on a hot day. Use common sense by building up workouts gradually under safe conditions. ...Read more

Does heart failure always happen after a heart attack? What are the symptoms of heart failure and does heart attacks always lead to heart failure?

Does heart failure always happen after a heart attack? What are the symptoms of heart failure and does heart attacks always lead to heart failure?

Heart: Heart failure can cause shortness of breath, which may worsen with activity or when lying down or sleeping. Heart failure can also cause chest pain, fatigue, exercise intolerance, swelling of the legs, abdominal fullness, loss of appetite, weight gain, or heart palpitations. The symptoms are related to water retention and decreased ability for the heart to maintain adequate blood flow to the body's vital organs. Heart attacks are the most common cause of heart failure, but they do not always lead to heart failure. In the modern era, there are several ways to treat heart attacks which minimize the risk of developing heart failure later. If you have had a heart attack, it is crucial to improve your risk factors to help prevent more heart attacks or the development of heart failure. This means eating healthy, exercising, not smoking tobacco, and controlling your blood pressure and cholesterol. ...Read more

Can you explain to me the relationship between arteriosclerosis that can lead to heart attack?

Sclerosis: Arteriosclerosis or atherosclerosis of the arteries to the heart results in irregular protrusion on the inside of the vessel. This causes turbulent flow of blood, causing the platelets to hit each other, aggregate, form small clots that get thrown to where they can't pass through and a complete blockade of that vessel and death of tissue just supplied by that artery. That is heart attack. ...Read more
