Can Ice Pack Be Put Over A Pacemaker
Do you really put an ice pack into a bag or wrapped around a towel before applying to injured areas?
A pacemaker is a device which sends electrical signals to the heart triggering heartbeats when needed. There are many ways to implant and configure a pacemaker; it may beat the top chambers (atria), lower chambers (ventricles) or both. Some systems stimulate both the left and right ventricles together. Pacemakers generally treat abnormally slow heart rhythms and certain ...Read more
use moist heat on tmj pain or ice pack for 30 min twice a day. i hoping this is just stress. could it just be temporary stress that is causing pain?
Perhaps: Could be. Try these things. Self treat with soft diet, jaw exercises, massage, heat/cold, OTC pain meds. A splint or physical therapy would be next. Occasionally muscle relaxants, biofeedback. Xrays are done for diagnosis. Surgery usually reserved for serious symptoms not responsive to other treatments. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Good question: Western medicine says use ice/cold to decrease swelling and then warmth after a coupe days. Eastern medicine does not like cold at all as it causes constriction and keeps toxins local where heat increases circulation and removal of toxins. Do what makes it feel better for you. If injured, take homeopathic arnica. It helps. If it is not an injury, please be seen. ...Read more
What other than rest ice elevating and wrapping should be done for a big toe injury? I tripped over a rubber mat last eve. Toeswore/moves slightly
Evaluation: No way to tell without a proper exam and x-rays. Toe injuries are often under treated. See a podiatrist for a proper evaluation. If you fractured it #1you can still walk in it and #2 if not properly treated, it could result in a permanently painful toe. ...Read more
Tissue injury: The skin directly under the ice pack may suffer cold induced damage. A buffer of any conductive material like cloth, vinyl, plastic, etc. can reduce the damage and frequent observation of the site is important. Blood flow through the skin surface is necessary to avoid cold damage and easy to verify by lifting the ice pack. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
To apply ice after a knee, back,&hand injury, is it safe to put ice in a towel and apply it to the injury or put ice in a plastic bag&then in a towel?
Personal choice: Ice is useful after an acute musculoskeletal injury. It you put it directly in a towel, it will melt and we the towel and perhaps your clothes or furniture. Putting the ice first in a plastic bag prevents the dripping and makes no difference to the effectiveness. ...Read more
Surgery in may for a fractured ankle they put a plate and 7 screws . now there is swelling around plate. Warm to touch Do I use heat or ice to help.
Would it be beneficial to lay down in a bathtub filled with ice cubes for 10 minutes for a fever?
Luke warm H2O is ok: Ice cubes cause vasoconstriction--constriction of blood vessles, will not serve the purpose of loosing the heat hence not advisable. Lukewarm-just minimally warm to touch is good. Tepid sponging -clean wash towels soaked in cold water and applied over body surfaces is sufficient for fevers upto 103. But above that temp.Bath tub filled up with lukewarm water and getting into it will help to reduce. ...Read more
Are you supposed to put a constricting bandage and tourniquet loosely in position before or after applying a splint to a compound fracture?
Pulled muscle in my upper arm. Should i wrap it with a tensor bandage to add some support and/or a little pressure, and should I ice or heat it?
Timing is important: If your injury is within 48 hrs, ice & bandage it -- do not heat, to minimize swelling/injury. After 48 hrs, it doesn't matter, but heat would be preferable after 48 hrs to improve blood flow to area, help healing. Compression with a bandage is not needed unless there is swelling to be prevented. ...Read more
Used a self-adhesive ACE wrap over the knee I had arthroscopic surgery on to protect it from my brace and am breaking out. Take some benadryl (diphenhydramine)???
Is bio-freeze or other topically applied arthritic gel a nono during pregnancy? Horrible migraines, will be applied to neck and back of head if okay.
Maybe: I just checked the biofreeze website and drugs.Com. Basically, it uses menhol applied topically to control pain, with some success. Drugs.Com said that there are no studies done to prove or disprove safety in pregnancy. Therefore, i wouldn't use it unless your ob/gyn has had some success with it and recommends it as O.K. ...Read more

Can using your arm more than you're used to like packing and painting for a few days cause your whole arm burn, ache when you use it?
Arm Overexertion: Hello. Overexertion can cause the muscles in your arm to ache, be sore and tight. Muscles can then exert some indirect force on the nerves and cause you to experience some burning. Symptoms should improve on their own without intervention. Just watch for any weakness in your arm or persistence of burning ...Read more
I have a scar that just formed on my right wrist as a result of a car accident. Would steroid creams help lighten the scar. I have an Rx for Betamethasone. As Drs say… Could this possibly do any 'harm ' if use liberally and for short period of time?
Probably won't help: Hypertrophic scarring / keloid formation is a frustrating complication in some patients after trauma or surgery. A strong topical steroid like betamethasone may provide a minimal amount of improvement. Basically, you're taking advantage of the side effect of prolonged use which is skin thinning. Use a small amount 2x daily for a month to know if it's working. Injectable steroids might work better. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Shoulder pain: Hi Kate, was there any injury to the joint? If not, it could be Bursitis. If an injury, an x-Ray is in order. See a neurologist: There are many types of headaches and many reasons for each type. You should speak to your primary care physician who can refer you to a neurologist. It would be helpful for you to keep a "headache calendar" by noting down the timing, frequency, duration, and intensity of your headaches. Ok pinched nerve in my back was hurting me and making it hard to breathe, put some cold ice pack on my back and I started to breathe normal W is tht?
No: Trauma to the scalp often produces a "goose egg" swelling due to bleeding into the membranes of the scalp. Ice and pressure will reduce the amount of bleeding. If injury is severe, evaluation may be necessary including ct scan to look for fracture or bleeding inside the skull. Ice and pressure will not affect the fracture or internal bleeding. But additional evaluation would be necessary. ...Read more

Hard to say: Have you been exercising, or did you lift something heavy?. If you have had a bad cough, that could pull a muscle between the ribs we also worry about a "dropped lung". Unless you were using "dry ice" i doubt you could have given yourself frostbite in 8 min with a standard ice pack if there is any question i would have it looked at. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
