Can I Work With Mrsa
I work in a home where someone has MRSA and I am trying for a baby and am very worried please tell me if I should be concerened?
Unlikely to be pbm: For everyone out there:mrsa is everywhere, it is not new, it is real but manageable and people with it do not need to be treated like they have the plague. You are as likely to find it on a random surface at home, at the supermarket or any other location. After the mid 50's we had penicillin resistant staph, but the world did not end. Simple hand washing ; wound care reduces anyones risks. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Someone at work has told me they have MRSA. How easily does it spread to others? What can I do to prevent getting it?
MRSA fears: MRSA is a bacterial infection that is resistant to standard care. Usually immune compromised persons can pick it up easily from another person. Don't share any razors with this coworker or reuse any personal items he may use. As long as he keeps taking his medicine and doesn't share personal items, you will be fine. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Protect yourself.: Assuming you are generally healthy and have a normal immune system, you can minimize your MRSA risk by following a few simple precautions: wash your hands and other exposed skin surfaces whenever they get dirty. Wear disposable gloves whenever you handle anything dirty (like dirty laundry). Treat any cuts and scrapes promptly, and keep them covered with a bandaid while at work. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Sister works in wound care where mrsa is common. She's visiting us for a week. Worried she's carrying it and we'll get it from her. What do I do?
Do not worry:
If your sister washes her hands, after wound care, as she is supposed to do, she is of more risk than any other person. Many people carry Staphylococcus and or MRSA in their nose.

I work in a home where someone has found out they have MRSA should I be concerned is it very contagious as I am worried and im trying to have a baby?
I work in a nursing home, one of the elderly I believe has mrsa, and I change him daily. Should I get tested for MRSA just incase?
I saw Dr. Okamato yesterday and he was absolutely the best!! I just want someone to tell me that as a teacher I should not go to work with MRSA lesions visible on my face. I know the ethical answer is no, I guess I just need reassurance. ?
I can't tell from: your question whether you are wishing to go to work or not. This is what NIOSH/US agency for occupational health says: Restrict workers with wound drainage that cannot be covered and contained with a clean, dry bandage; Restrict workers with activities where it is likely others may come in contact; food handlers. If you can cover face lesions with bandage, you may work. Hope this helps. Stay well. ...Read more
I have an abscess that resulted from a cyst rupturing. They are soon labs to see if it is Mrsa should I stay home from work until I get results?
Still draining?: I assume "they" are medical people who drained your abscess and took a culture. If it oozed white/yellow pus-like material, it is very likely to be MRSA. Whether to stay home or not...is it still draining? See the doc. Are you on antibiotics? How painful is it? Can you walk, sit, drive, and do your job? If it has stopped draining and is getting better, keep it clean and covered and go to work! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

If a child on methotrexate and remicade (infliximab) gets a abcescss/MRSA do they need to be admitted or in some cases will oral antibiotics work?
Depends. : Depends on the examining doctor who is taking care of his medications. As u may have been explained Remicade ( infliximab) may allow infections to become life threatening. If IV antibiotics are contemplated they can be administered at home with an indwelling peripheral vein catheter and nurse home visits. Sometimes just drainage of abscess is all that may be required. Close follow up is key. ...Read more
