Can I Use Whitening Toothpaste While Pregnant
When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more
Yes: Maintaining a health mouth is very important always and during pregnancy is not an exception of course. Oral rinses that are used for a short duration as directed and the spit out should not be of concern for you. Probably not: A lot of skin whitening products contain hydroquinone which is absorbed rapidly by the skin. There simply aren't enough tests to know if this is a safe topical treatment in pregnancy. Therefore, i would recommend avoiding it. Definitely any product with retin or retinoid should be avoided as these have been shown to cause birth defects, even when used on the skin. ...Read more

Avoid overuse: There's insufficient data either way. I think at some point in time sufficient research will have been done to decide this issue. In the meantime, while pregnant the less chemicals you assault your body with the better. Start with a good professional cleaning @ your Dentist's office. Brush 2 minutes 2x/day w regular toothpaste. Floss daily. Remember, over whitening can actually cause damage. ...Read more
Sure!: Expired whitening gel just means that it may not be as strong. If it is expired more than 6 months or so, i would get new gel or strips. Peroxides do break down after time and are not as effective. But if it is only a few months out of date, it won't hurt to use them. Don't use the gel longer than directions state, even if expired. ...Read more

Since I've begun using a whitening (peroxide) mouthwash, my teeth/gums are sensitive. How long for them to feel better if I stop using the mouthwash?
Not a good idea: Hydroquinone is category C in pregnancy, which means that it may have harmful effects for your baby. Use of category C medications is generally avoided in pregnancy when possible. Given that HQ is for an aesthetic concern, I wouldn't want to take any risk assoc with HQ. You can start using it again after your pregnancy (don't use it while breastfeeding either). ...Read more

Would not: while most whitening toothpaste is very mild, you may cause a shade difference between the exposed tooth and the part covered by the braces.
