Really bad constipation! Doc said miralax (polyethylene glycol) daily, can I try miralax (polyethylene glycol) mixed in prune juice for better results since prune juice didn't help by itself?

Yes, however...: It is wise to treat constipation and MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) may help; it is safe to take with prune juice. But this does not address the cause; eat more fiber, drink more water, exercise, try probiotics, get tested for hypothyroidism. I advise you try triphala, an ayurvedic formula that has many health benefits ; better addresses the cause: http://www. Planetherbs. Com/specific-herbs/the-wonders-of-triphala. Html. ...Read more

Is chronic constipation (daily miralax, (polyethylene glycol) frequent senna, glyc. Supp's aren't enough. Enemas needed often) in toddlers considered a Motility issue?

Stool retention: This is more an accident than a motility issue. When/if the kid decides one day not to poop, and the next day has a hard painful stool, they may try to stop having them. Over time stool retention causes physical changes in the large bowel causing poor emptying. Parents try short treatments that fail & the problem continues. This often requires a developmental ped or pedi GI working for a year. ...Read more

More miralax (polyethylene glycol): Talk to your doctor, but if she is still constipated on MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) she may need a higher dose of miralax (polyethylene glycol). If she is eating fiber bars make sure she is drinking plenty of water. She should also sit on the toilet for at least 15 minutes after each meal. Get her a foot stool so it is more comfortable to sit on the toilet that long. If all that doesn't help, she should see a pediatric GI doctor. ...Read more

What does one do about constipation? I have tried Metamucil and am about to try a suppository. Does having a prolapse cause complications here.

Stay regular: Keep taking the Metamucil, and more water. Don't take Metamucil only when you're constipated--take it every day. Also, take magnesium to "bowel tolerance." You can't OD on magnesium, because it will give you diarrhea. Find dose that works for you--every day. Add bowel stimulants like prunes. You may be hypothyroid, a common cause of constipation.
