Can I Take Zyrtec With Mucinex
I took zyrtec at 10am today, can I take mucinex pm before I got to bed tonight so that is helps me sleep?
Possible, but: Zyrtec (cetirizine), is an antihistamine. Mucinex d (guaifenesin and Pseudoephedrine 120mg) is a combination of a medication to loosen secretions and a decongestant. The latter can raise blood pressure, make you jittery, "hyper" and cause heartburn and constipation. If you have high blood pressure, thyroid problem or diabetes, yo should not take it. Don't take it regularly under any circumstances. ...Read more
My nose is extremely stuffy, I took 3 zyrtec pills and had mucinex (guaifenesin) as well. Did I take too much meds?
Not the right kind: Although even taking 3 Zyrtec pills may be ok (except for some drowsiness perhaps), you are not taking the right pill since antihistamine pills do not decongest the nose. You will likely have better luck with a nasal steroid. Some will find an antihistamine with a decongestant (Zyrtec D?) to be helpful but I usually try to avoid oral decongestants because of the side effects. ...Read more

Can you become dependent on Zyrtec or mucinex? I've been taking them for a week to get off a cold I have.
My 2 year old has a minor cold. Can I give her 2.5ml of children's mucinex cold, and still give her prescribed 5ml of children's zyrtec? She is 33 Lbs
Better not: Children's Mucinex cold has more than one formulation, and some contain an antihistamine as zyrtec, you don't want to combine both, besides some ingredients in these formulations may have side effects on your toddler. As for the zyrtec, 2.5 ml (2.5mg) would be enough, saline nasal washes, acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol) would be helpful, together with rest and fluids, if any problem, call/ see her MD ...Read more
Allergic rhinnitis: Zyrtec is antihistamine which helps decrease your immune response to allergens, Mucinex (guaifenesin) thins mucus and d (the decongestant) reduces swelling in nasal passages. Can allergies give you flu- or cold-like symptoms? Also, should taking Mucinex (guaifenesin) cold, advil, zyrtec, and emergen-c all together help?
Cough, chest/nose congestion, tired, blocked ears over a week. Taking zyrtec, mucinex, (guaifenesin) advil. Is it cold, allergies, something else?
Non specific: Not sure what the question really is, but if you are talking about upper respiratory tract or head cold symptoms due to infection versus if they are do to allergies, allergic symptoms tend to occur with exposure to kn own or suspected triggers, would not have fever, or sore throat, infections would be more likely to have fever, sore throat, no clear allergic exposure etc. ...Read more

A bit more time..: Not sure whether your main complaint was congestion (inability to breathe through the nose) or facial pain/pressure. I's not uncommon for a true sinusitis to take 3 weeks or even more to clear. Saline nasal rinse is always a good choice but if symptoms persist (or worsen) may be time to see your doctor or an ENT. ...Read more
Yes, this is a common combination for treatment of cold symptoms. You might prefer to take with food to minimize nausea, particularly the Aleve. You could also take an hour or so apart if taking all that medicine at once causes nausea.
