drug interaction checker did not show any significant interactions between Pepcid (famotidine) &
Sudafed Congestion (pseudoephedrine). However, there are many different formulations of sudafed. So, if not using plain sudafed would check the formulation specifically. ...Read more
Not advisable : I would not take both at the same time because these medications do the same thing and can have additive effects if used together. They are both antihistamines for the treatment of allergies. If one of these alone is not helping, sometimes switching to the other one is helpful. If none of these remedies work, then consultation with your doctor or allergist would be appropriate. ...Read more
Sounds ok: A person who has no problems taking levocetirizine (Xyzal) by itself, and who has no problems taking amoxicillin (Amoxil) by itself, should also have no problem taking levocetirizine and amoxicillin together. The two medications do not have noticeable interactions with one another. ...Read more
Mixing medications: Since neozep contains chlorpheniramine, it does not make sense to take it with loratidine since both medications are antihistamines. Loratidine is probably better since it has a longer duration of action and is less sedating. The neozep also has a decongestant and analgesic, but you could take these separately with loratidine if needed (for example, taking sudafed and tylenol). ...Read more
Yes, but why: Both Allegra and Claritin (loratadine) are new generation antihistamines used to treat allergies. If symptoms are so severe that both medications are needed, see an allergist for a better treatment plan. However, there is no drug interaction if both are taken together at usual doses. ...Read more
Not necessary: Both Allegra (fexofenadine) and Claritin (loratadine) are new generation antihistamines. There is no particular advantage to taking both together. On the other hand, there is probably no harm either. If symptoms are not controlled with antihistamines, see your doctor to confirm your diagnosis and get appropriate treatment. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Not recommended: Those are both drugs of the same classification , antihistamines. They should not be taken together, one or the other. If you need more help with your allergies, you should see your primary care doctor, an allergist, or an ENT allergist. There are many other rx that can be used. You could benefit from allergy testing and a detailed nasal and sinus exam. ...Read more

Cold meds in child: Over the counter cough and cold preparations are no longer FDA approved or recommended for children under the age of 2. Since your child is asthmatic, the best way to treat his cough is with his asthma and allergy medication regimen (including albuterol) and following up with his pediatrician if symptoms persist or worsen. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Whenever I get hot I start to itch, I had hives prior but they're gone I'm currently on zantac (ranitidine) and Zyrtec (Costco brand). It doesn't seem to work.
Cholinergic ?: There is a condition known as cholinergic urticaria (small bumps) which occurs during the cooling down period after a rise in core body temperature (hot shower, exercise, stress etc). If this fits your pattern, then try taking the antihistamine up to every 8 hrs to see if this may work. ...Read more
I feel like I am currently having palipations. Nerves probably don't help it either. I am taking Zantac (ranitidine) zyrtec and steroid i think it's Zantac (ranitidine) idk? ?
Medication reactions: If the side-effect you suspect is not serious or causing symptoms such as dizziness, , nausea, shortness of breath or chest pains, it might be important to reliably determine which medication is the problem. A day on followed by a day off the medication (repeat with all suspected meds) should help you decide. See your doctor for evaluation of palpitations if they persist. ...Read more
Zyrtec/Zantac combo for hives? Had hives for over a yr. Allergist found nothing. Keeps saying it'll "go away." GP presc. Z/Z combo. An antacid? Why?
More than antacid: Zantac (ranitidine) is a selective histamine receptor blocker. Histamine release may cause hives in some patients and blocking both kinds of receptors (H1 with Zyrtec and H2 with Zantac (ranitidine)) may be helpful. See doctor: Since cooling is usually more soothing for itching, your response to heat is of interest. If taking Zyrtec (cetirizine) up to 4x daily does not help, then you may have something other than the usual hives.
