Yes: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) will help you sleep and help with excess mucus production. Mucinex (guaifenesin) is called an expectorant as it helps thin and loosen mucus to make your cough more effective at clearing the mucus from your lungs. There should be no problem taking these two medications together. ...Read more
Check with doc: Both cause sleepiness so combined makes even more so. Both can hurt you if you take too much, alone or together. It also depends on what other meds, drugs/alcohol, caffeine, you're taking & why you need the med in the first place. Good sleep is often obtained through good habits, and enough daily exercise & proper diet, to ensure a sound sleep. I bet a lot of marathon runners were ex-insomniacs! ...Read more
OVER SEDATION: All three Meds cause sedation. Try to space out dosages. Zyrtec& Allegra (fexofenadine) are better for allergies and less sedating. Follow up with your prescribing doctor, if pain is worsening causing insomnia, you may need Meds adjustment. IE gabapentin at bedtime. Or long acting narcotics like Fentanyl patch. ...Read more
I took the Benadryl (diphenhydramine) spay 45 minutes later took the pill didn't know I shouldn't take them together. 2 pills 25mg each. Will I be ok?
Should be ok if...: If a person had no problems taking meloxicam (Mobic) in the past for some medical condition, and separately had no problem taking diphenhydramine (Benadryl) in the past, then she should be ok taking the medications at the same time. If worried, she can ask her doctor who prescribed the meloxicam. Benadryl does cause drowsiness, so can be unsafe for certain activities such as driving or piloting. ...Read more
2 antihistamines: At usual doses, there should not be significant side effects from taking these 2 antihistamines together. If a person is needing this much for relief, consider seeing an allergist for an evaluation. ...Read more

Antihistamines: They are both antihistamines, so I wouldn't take them together. They both act similarly, so their effect would be too much together. Wait until one wears off before trying the other, about 24 hours or so. ...Read more
Delsym (dextromethorphan): This is an over-the-counter cough medicine which contains dextromethorphan which can be habit-forming if used on regular basis. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is an antihistamine for allergies. Not sure why u need both, but please do talk to your doctor about this. ...Read more
Yep!: They are both antihistamines, with a difference. Benedryl is sedating, has to be taken 3-4 times a day, and may need to be reserved for bedtime dosing. Claritin (loratadine) is a once-a-day, nonsedating antihistamine, and can be taken any time of day. One common technique for using combination antihistamines for severe symptoms would be morning Claritin (loratadine) and bedtime benedryl. ...Read more
I agree w dr. Labarbera. Although they can be used together - don't really recommend it. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can lead to rebound insomnia. How about starting w good sleep hygiene. 1. Keep a regular bedtime & wakening time (to include weekends). Get up the same time each day, regardless of what time you fell asleep.
2. Make a regular, relaxing bedtime routine. Relaxing rituals prior to bedtime may include. ...Read more
Depends: They are both in the same family (antihistamines), but a few people have daytime symptoms so take non-sedating med (like loratadine) and its effect wears off before next day's dose, so take a sedating (/older) antihistamine (like benadryl) at bedtime for continued relief and to aid with sleep. If no heart / urinary / blood pressure issues and no other meds to conflict with, not likely a problem. ...Read more
Thoughts..: Valerian, has the possibility of causing some drowsiness, so I would be careful when taking that with benadryl, (diphenhydramine) which can also cause drowsiness. If someone's been taking it for a long time and they haven't had any significant reactions then it's probably okay. But like almost all the supplements out there, they haven't been rigorously tested for safety and interactions so it's buyer beware. ...Read more

Is it dangerous to take valuim 20mg and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) 50mg together? I have high tolerence
I'd avoid it: Dangerous is different to different folk. I'd certainly hope you'd not drive or do anything requiring alertness, judgement, steadiness, etc. I would avoid it. But the medications you already list are already risky for those reasons in combination. Talk w/ your provider. Don't drive unless ABSOLUTELY unavoidable. Be careful. ...Read more
