Been taking 20mg Paxil 11:30am for about 5 months. Can I take NyQuil at night or theraflu since I'm really sick?
These OTC meds both contain a decongestant and acetaminophen. Taking both can be dangerous.
These OTC combination medications are not very effective and will not make you get better 1 day sooner than taking nothing. Your best bet is to take Tylenol(acetaminophen) for pain or fever and a 12-hour nasal decongestant spray like Afrin for nasal congestion, follow the directions on label. ...Read more
I'm on claritin (loratadine) D and flonase, but getting little relief/sleep. Is it okay to also take either theraflu nightime sever cold and cough or nyquil coldflu?
No: Consult your prescriber, but I believe Trazodone hangs around a while in your system & may interact w/some OTC meds. Besides, I don't recommend the combination OTC cold meds bc they may contain unnecessary, & even dangerous, ingredients. For thick mucous, use plain guafenisin. For allergies, use otc certrizine. For runny nose that clear mucous, if no HTN, phenylephrine or sudafed ...Read more

No: Better avoid the combination, nighttime cough medicines contain antihistamines which interact with trazodone, also other ingredients of cough meds like dextromethorphan would interact with trazodone as well, all would lead to CNS depression, call or see your doctor if your cough symptoms are really bothersome and you can't stop the trazodone, good luck ...Read more

Not generally: Most employers test for drugs of abuse, and nyquil, outside of a little alcohol, does not have any of the drugs they would be testing for (usually amphetamines, pcp, marijuana, opioids, benzodiazepines, cocaine). Also, they usually ask you to fill out paperwork on what your medications are, so you should just list the nyquil. ...Read more
Can I take a sleep medicine with famotidine such as nighttime Nyquil or Tylenol (acetaminophen) pm?
Yes: Usually, there is no interaction with famotidine and nyquil or tylenol (acetaminophen) PM. Some recommend avoiding the combination with a different pain medication such as enteric-coated naproxen as the combination may result in premature dissolution of enteric coating, potentially increasing risk of stomach ulcers sometimes associated with naproxen. ...Read more

Yes these: medications should not interfere with each other's function in your body. Amoxicillin is also non-sedating while Nyquil usually has some sedative effect. So amoxicillin should not increase the effect of sedation. I am assuming you were prescribed both medications by a healthcare provider and not self-medicating. Either way it should be okay as long as you are not allergic to either of these. ...Read more
Claritin (loratadine): Claritin (loratadine) is a non/sedating antihistamine, which is a longer acting drug. The usual dosing in only one a day. Nyquil has antihistamine in it, too, but it's an older one and will make most people drowsy. By taking Claritin (loratadine) in the morning and nyquil at night, you are getting more antihistamine than is recommended. Better to use a shooter acting non-sedating antihistamine like allegra. ...Read more

Can NyQuil/DayQuil be taken if you take Losartan 100mg? If not what recommendations for cold/flu day and night medicines do you have?
Mixing medications: Either of them should be fine. The dayquil contains a mild decongestant — phenylephrine which could potentially raise your blood pressure. One version of the nyquil contains pseudoephedrine which should be avoided in people with high blood pressure but in the US that would be behind the counter. I would say take whatever to help your symptoms and only for as long as you have symptoms. ...Read more
