I'm having an allergy attack. I'm already prescribed Zyrtec and Singulair and still can't stop sneezing. Can I take Benadryl with these 2 meds and go to bed?
Allergy meds: Yes - there should be no reaction with the singulair and maybe a slight reaction (increased somnolence)the the zyrtec but since you are heading to bed that isn't an issue. You might want to double the dose of Zyrtec going forward as the 20 mg dose was actually better when the drug was being developed. ...Read more

I have asthma & severe allergies, currently taking zyrtec, singulair (montelukast) and albuterol as needed. We are trying to conceive & I know antihistamines dry up mucus, what can I do to help my mucus in uterus?
Complicated: Antihistamines can all interfere with ovulation by blocking the action of histamine, a chemical that also plays a role in releasing an egg from the ovary and implanting it in the womb. These drugs are effective at relieving the symptoms of an allergic reaction, but they may also halt conception. If you’re trying to get pregnant, it’s best to avoid antihistamines from mid-cycle until your period. ...Read more

My daughter is taking montelukast and Qvar daily at night. She is 6 and has asthma. Can she take Benedryl at night for runny nose and terrible cold?
Upper respiratory infections may cause worsening of asthma and an increased need for Albuterol.
Cold remedies are often not very useful, but nasal saline rinses and a vaporizer may help to relieve nasal symptoms. If she is allergic and being treated with an anti histamine, this can be continued. ...Read more
How to recover from antihistaminic dysphonia? Ice-cream? Now 2nd day. I stop antihistamines and moved to Montelukast.
Time: Give it a few days to recover. I presume that you were taking the older generation antihistamine (Benadryl, hydroxyzine etc) which tends to dry up the throat. If the problem is indeed from antihistamine, it will recover within days. In the meanwhile, lozenges, honey, lemon drop (sugar-free), ice cream or whatever soothes it can be taken. ...Read more

Doses?: Depends on the dose of Benadryl (diphenhydramine). If you have insomnia, sleep hygiene is an often overlooked, yet more effective treatment, than medications. In addition, the combination of medications could impair decision making, cause undesired drowsiness, and other side effects. Speak with your doctor, before taking any combination of medications. Do not drive/operate heavy machinery under their influence. ...Read more
Benadryl (diphenhydramine): Taking medication that expired almost 5 years ago is probably not a good idea. It may be safe, but I don't know for sure. If we were in the Zombie apocalypse and you had no other choice I would say go for it. But since generic diphenhydramine is cheap, why don't you make a trip to your local store and buy some new. ...Read more
More sleepy: Nothing serious at these low doses although you may feel more sleepy since the sedation effects of ech medicine add up. But it should be fine after 12-18 hours. ...Read more
Should be ok if...: If a person had no problems taking meloxicam (Mobic) in the past for some medical condition, and separately had no problem taking diphenhydramine (Benadryl) in the past, then she should be ok taking the medications at the same time. If worried, she can ask her doctor who prescribed the meloxicam. Benadryl does cause drowsiness, so can be unsafe for certain activities such as driving or piloting. ...Read more
Talk 2 dr/pharmacist: There are no particular drug-drug interactions, but we don't know what other medications you are on, or what your other health issues are. Benadryl is mildly sedating and may antagonize some of the effects of adderall. An occasional benadryl for an allergic problem or insomnia is likely to be fine, while regular use of it may be a problem for you. Talk to your prescriber and/or your pharmacist. ...Read more
Yes: You can take them together. If you are sensitive to the sedating effects of antihistamines, you should not take them at the same time. It would be better to take Allegra in the morning or afternoon and then Benadryl (diphenhydramine) in the evening before bed. However, if you don't feel sleepy after taking antihistamines, it would not be harmful to take them together. ...Read more
