Can i take librax a week before sibo testing? Prescribed for IBS because i get cramps but I am also chronically constipated can I take amitiza (lubiprostone) too?
Metoclopramide increases emptying of food from the stomach and decreases symptoms of nausea, vomiting, heartburn, and fullness,. It should ideally be taken 30 minutes before meals. It's use in pregnancy should be reserved for severe conditions where the risks to the baby of not treating exceed the potential ...Read more
I take omeprazole, but tonight, i'm still having stomach problems. What additionally can I take with it?
Several: You can take an acid buffering agent (tums, mylanta, maalox), an acid reduction agent (zantac, pepcid) or another omeprazole. But try to figure out what triggered the stomach problem (ie something you ate earlier today, extra coffee, etc) so you can avoid the problem altogether. If it happens repeatedly, call your doc. ...Read more
Yes I have been having constipation due to the opium pain pills I have to take for my pain! Can you recommend a good medication I can take daily! Thx?
OIC: Opioids block the bowl opioid receptors. Hence most of the standard medications really do not work well. Certainly you can try them. The best is a specific bowel opioid antagonist called MOVANTIK 25mg per day. This works well and does not cross the blood brain barrier so the pain relief will still be there. Another one is an injectable called Relistor (methylnaltrexone) which works the same way. ...Read more
I am taking Plavix (clopidogrel) and I will have to add some Aspirin for a month. I have erosive gastritis. What should I do?
All depends: The most important factor is why you are taking the Plavix (clopidogrel). Some indications such as peripheral artery disease may not be as strong as others, i.e.recent stroke. Erosive gastritis is a serious risk for bleeding; your doctor(s) will want to weight the benefit of Plavix (clopidogrel)/aspirin against the risk for you. Options include no anti-coagulation to other alternatives including heparin. Work with your doc! ...Read more

Panado is a brand of paracetamol sold in south africa (so i presume you live there) which is known as Acetaminophen here in the states. I'm 5 weeks pregnant and I have got an upset tummy what can I take for this? Also is it ok to take paracetamol whilst pregnant
Maybe: Paracetamol is tylenol (acetaminophen) and this is a category b risk. Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women or animal studies have shown an adverse effect, but adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus in any trimester. Try unisom for the nausea. ...Read more

What over-the-counter pain medication can I take after having a laparoscopy? Vicodin makes me feel sick so i want to take an alternative.
Two Options: 1-acetaminophen (aka tylenol) 2-nsaids (ibuprofen, naprosyn, (naproxen) advil, motrin, aleve). Most people find the nsaids more beneficial--in fact, i advise my patients to take them "around-the-clock" for the first few days. Although these are "over the counter", there are restrictions to using them--make sure it's ok with your surgeon. ...Read more
I have developed a serious gambling problem after taking Requip (ropinirole) for many years. I REALLY want to get off of this drug! What can I take instead?
Interesting: Very interesting, odd effect. No simple answer. Since you were on Requip (ropinirole) for many years are you sure this isn't an independent process developed during the time you were on Requip (ropinirole)? There is a phenomenon we call, "True, True, and Unrelated": meaning two things occur in same time period but are not related. If you really think it is related then new Rx depends on illness details. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Yes, but: The combination of the two can increase constipation, CNS depression, hypotension and psychomotor impairment. Speak with provider; may have to reduce the oxycodone dose. I also have kidney stones and know how painful they can be. Sometimes an anti-emetic can help if the oxycodone causes nausea. Nothing worse than being nauseated while having a kidney stone attack. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
