Osmotic Laxative: Yes, it is OK to take Miralax daily.
There are different types of laxatives. Some are safer than others. It depends on how they work.
Saline laxatives
Stimulant laxtives-most bowel addicting
Stool softners- colace
Osmotic laxatives- This is Miralax type
If it becomes chronic or lasting more than 3 months, causing more symptoms I would consider finding out the cause of the constipation Read more

Constipation: Senokot (senna) can be taken every day to treat constipation in a safe way. Aside from being irritating, Fleet's enemas should be avoided. Increase water intake and amount of fiber in your diet to decrease constipation. If daily Senokot (senna) does not help, an appointment should be made with primary physician or GI specialist Read more

So what would be the best way to transition from miralax (polyethylene glycol) to a fiber suppliment?

Use both: A bowel regimen includes both: fiber, stool softners, laxatives, probiotics and a goal of two soft bowel movements daily. For hemorrhoids, fissures, or other rectal problems add hygiene (shower, olive oil and hair dryer area daily). Be well. Read more

Is it okay to use miralax (polyethylene glycol) daily indefinitely? I'm 30, eat a healthy high fiber diet, but suffer from autonomic dysfunction.

Yes: Keep checking in with your doc and keep trying other non med things, like water, fiber, exercise, etc. Ultimately it's a decision
about the risk of not having bowel movements and the complications from that like bowel obstruction or colon cancer or diverticulosis vs the risk of the med. Read more

I'm recovering from diverticulitis started on miralax (polyethylene glycol) & fiber. I am pooping 3-4 times a day & hurts sigmoid sometimes is this natural?

Yes: The multiple stools are likely from the fiber and miralax (polyethylene glycol). The pain from the initial occurance may linger for several days. As long as it continues to improve, I would not worry. If any fever, vomiting, or worsening pain, I would consult with you physician. Read more

So many options...: If no other tests than colonoscopy, go back to GI doctor to rule out metabolic disease (e.G hypothyroidism), partial obstruction, inflammation, anatomic defects (check colon), functional problem (e.G hirschprung's, etc.), more. You may get a colon transit study, anal manometry, defecography testing--to name a few. Pelvic retraining may help without drugs. Prostate checked? Had pelvic ct scan yet? Read more

Constipated for 2 wks. I took MiraLax & Colace for 3 days, but neither helped. I've been drinking prune juice & eating high fiber foods. I've gone a little, but I'm still constipated. My K level is 3.2. What can I do at this point? (Best options?)

Enema/water: At this point I suggest that you try a Fleet's enema which you can buy at the pharmacy. Continue the miralax (polyethylene glycol) nightly. The colace is not likely to help much but adding a fiber supplement, walking daily for at least 30 minutes and drinking at least 3 liters of water daily could also help. If this does not work then you may need to see a doctor for a medical intervention. Read more

I've tried linzess trulance miralax psyllium and other fiber supplements diets my stool is still pencil thin. Is triphala safe?

Safe enough: Triphala is an herbal formula used in Aruvedic medicine often for bowel problems/relief of constipation. It consists of at least three plants; it is not clear what chemical is responsible for it's effects. I would be more skeptical that it would provide any benefit for you, if the other things you list have not, more than I would be worried it was unsafe. You could try it without expecting too much Read more
