Been taking Lexapro (escitalopram) for five years. Once I stop how long does it take for the drug to leave the system?

Not that simple: Assuming you haven't developed any liver or kidney disease in the last 5 years, the drug will be eliminated at the same rate whether you've taken it for 5 years or 5 days. The difference is that your brain may have accommodated to the drug in ways that are not dose-dependent. If so, how long the drug EFFECT will wear off in your case can't be predicted or measured in any practical way. ...Read more

Therapy?: In addition to Meds, have you yet tried any form of psychotherapy? Typically, the optimal combination of things to treat emotional issues such as anxiety or depression is medication (which, on your best day, is supposed to take the edge off symptoms) but the real gruntwork takes place in psychotherapist's consulting room. ...Read more

When do the all the lexapro 10mg withdrawal symptoms stop I've been taking it for about 4 years and quit cold turkey 5days ago? I take clonazepam 0.5m

Hopefully Soon: In general it is not a good idea to stop medicines like Lexapro cold turkey especially after you been on it for several years. Usually you're supposed to taper yourself off of it. That is to say you gradually decrease the dose until you stop. I would recommend you ask your doctor or pharmacist about this. ...Read more

Too much to drink on New Years & very nauseous 3 days later. Took peptobismol & still gassy. I'm scared to take my Lexapro (escitalopram). No food only fluids 24hrs.

Call your doctor: Regarding your nausea and Lexapro (escitalopram) medication. It is not recommended to take alcohol and Lexapro (escitalopram) together, although there are no known "interactions" between the two. It is "possible" that side effects may increase when you mix the two. Alcohol has been known to worsen what your doctor is treating. It should be fine to resume your meds, but its always best to check with your doctor first. ...Read more

Switched to Paxil (paroxetine) from Lexapro. Also take Valium, in process of weaning. Paxil (paroxetine) was first AD I took many years ago. Could it help my Panic again?

See discussion: There’s no reason that paxil (paroxetine) wouldn’t manage your panic disorder even if you’ve been off of it. Much of it depends upon how well you responded to it in the past, if you had side effects, etc.
Please discuss with your provider such that you may be prescribed an adequate dose to treat your symptoms.

I have been diagnosed with GAD for 10yrs now I take 10mg of lexapro which helps reduce my anxiety but does not generally help with my panic attacks. I have been using xanax throughout my years of having GAD but my doctor won't prescribe it to me long term

Lexapro (escitalopram): Generally, I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (or some other related type) as an adjunct to almost every treatment I prescribe. In panic disorder, this really helps prevent the panic attacks before they begin. When absolutely necessary, I've also found Klonopin to be a bit more helpful than Xanax (alprazolam). So, maybe discuss those options with ur psychiatrist. Hope that helps! ...Read more

I just recently strating having problems with anxiety and depression this year. And I'm not sure what is the right way to handle it. I do take lexapro at night and ambien to sleep but I don't feel aby different and I have gained 30 Poulsbo so all around I

I have been taking Lexapro (escitalopram) for 9 years and I just don't think its working anymore. Could you tell me the symptoms I would be experiencing?

Can you help a bit?: What are the symptoms for which you believe the medicine is "not working anymore? " Remember, Lexapro (escitalopram) is an antidepressant. It's mechanism is to increase serotonin in the system. That may not necessarily be expected to work on other problems you list such as ADHD or ANXIETY. There are other approaches and medications for those entities. Have you had a conversation with your doctor lately about this ...Read more

I've been taking Lexapro (escitalopram) for some years & it's been working great I just wanna stop taking pills but everytime I try 2 stop taking I feel useless.

Understandable: It's understandable that you want to get off meds even if they are working, but maybe not realistic. It is important that you set up as many forms of support and sources of joy when you are feeling stable and happy. If you establish a good working relationship with your psychiatrist and/or a psychotherapist you will have a better sense of what is possible for your future medication. Best wishes. ...Read more

How long do withdrawal symptoms last from lexapro (escitalopram)? I have taken 5 mg/day for 1.5 years and have been off for 2 wks. Withdrawal has been difficult.

I was taking Lexapro (escitalopram) for two years after the death of my son I have now stopped taking this I weaned off slowly I now have headaches is this normal?

No: If you had migraine headaches or even tension headaches that were relieved on lexapro, (escitalopram) this could be the case for a time. If the taper was slow, and over a considerable period of time - weeks to months, this would be unusual. Restarting the Lexapro (escitalopram) would be of interest to see if the headcaches resolve.
On the other hand, did you feel that you effectively grieved his death? Ssri's can "numb" one. ...Read more

Needs monitoring: Probably ok to just switch, although tapering Prozac and gradually adding Lexapro (escitalopram) is another approach. Bottom line: be sure you are closely monitored for any recurring symptoms of anxiety or depression. You may do well on lower dose Prozac + low dose Lexapro (escitalopram). Only way to tell is frequent clinical assessments by prescribing doctor. I hope this helps. Best wishes. ...Read more

I am on Lexapro for 4 years. My Dr reduced it to 5mg from 15mg and put me on 100mg lyrica (pregabalin).I am very aggressive and irritable. Is this due to Lex reducti?

See below: There could be several reasons for your aggression and irritability. If you have chronic headaches, you should see a dr.
