Can I Take Ibuprofen After Gastric Bypass
I've had a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and I've been told to avoid ibuprofen products can I take Naprosyn (naproxen)?
That's an Ibuprofen-: Like compound, known as NSAIDS (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug). It's also known as Aleve (naproxen) too OTC. This class produces gastritis or stomach lining irritation and worse without food. So this is why when you are getting gastric bypass surgery, and have little space hold food in, the NSAIDS can wreak havoc on your stomach's lining and cause you pain and distress. ...Read more

Ulcers: Ibuprofen and other NSAIDs cause ulcers (marginal ulcers) at your gastric pouch connection site and it can bleed, cause pain or even rupture in that area, so avoid them, or use in low dose mixed with food and only with with PPI (nexium (esomeprazole) etc), however you MUST get permission from your surgeon before doing so another dangerous thing to avoid is SMOKING, it will do the same harm. ...Read more

I am on antipsychotics gained weight I have diet exercise no luck while on it doc won't take me off thinking of lapband or gastric bypass?
Stay on meds!:
I know u asked about surg, but meds first. Anger issues: I can see why your doc would want you to stay on your meds. However, none of the meds listed are antipsychotics, so I am confused. Phentermine, while for wt loss, can make anger worse. See if doc will try metformin instead. And instead of the clonazepam, what was your antipsychotic? Is there a less fatty one? Or it with metformin?

Swim or do water aerobics in between for less intense exercise. Remember to include a healthy diet with meal planning and portion control (try food diary app), and get adequate sleep. ...Read more

Chew calcium citrate: Calcium citrate is the form best absorbed after a gastric bypass. Make sure it's a chewable form, and that you chew it thoroughly. Since iron, magnesium, and calcium all "fight" to be absorbed in the small intestine, please space these minerals at least 1 hour apart. Not taking calcium (2000 mg a day = two 500-600 mg tablets twice a day) will rob your bones of calcium and give you osteoporosis. ...Read more

I had nissen. It has unwrapped and esophagus shrunk. My BMI is 29. My md recommends gastric bypass. I'm not convinced. Take plavix (clopidogrel) so no meds.
Complicated Question: A bmi of 29 without comorbid conditions is not an indication for gastric bypass. That being said your bmi may have some contribution to why your nissen failed. First of all I would recommend seeing a surgeon in specializes in nissen or bariatric procedures. You may just need to lose a little weight and then have repeat wrap with an esophogeal lengthening procedure. ...Read more
Good Morning! I'm concerned about taking Prednisone (headaches) after having a gastric bypass. I also take meds for epilepsy&pseudotumor cerebri.
Likely low risk: If your physician knows that you have had a gastric bypass and what changes are associated with it AND still feels that you need the prednisone then the risks are likely less than the potential benefits. Lack of what vitamins can cause cracked lips? Since I had gastric bypass (5 yrs ago), my lips have been chronically cracked. It's really bad. I take all my vitamins. Labs ok. Do I need more vitamins?
May be food allergy: Riboflavin (b2), zinc, or iron deficiency can cause cheilosis (cracked corners of mouth), so it may help to take higher doses of these due to possible absorption problems. Check with your doc. In addition to what's been said, you could have a chronic food allergy causing your cracked lips. Common causes include gluten/gliadin (wheat), dairy, soy, and eggs. An elimination diet may help. ...Read more

Can make changes: Try switching to a less constipating form of iron (e.g., ferrous bisglycinate) and try to moderate consumption of diuretic drinks like coffee/oj. Magnesium and vitamin c supplementation can also help with constipation (although mg+ can interfere with calcium absorption if you're low). For vit c, start with buffered powder, add a heaping 1/2 tsp to water/juice, & increase by 1/2 tsp/day until ok. ...Read more
