Depends: Elavil (amitriptyline) can interact with several other meds such that even a low dose can be toxic and some people don't metabolize well. You should discuss with your prescriber your concerns. If thinking of a suicide plan, tell them as well. Legitrin w elavil (amitriptyline)?: Legitrin appears to be one of the many brand formulations of Tylenol (acetaminophen). Always talk with your prescribing doc about what meds are safe to take with your current med regimen. In general, Tylenol (acetaminophen) poses risks to the liver when taken in more than modest quantities. It also appears that you already take Ibuprofen & aleve. If you're having so much pain -- best to talk with ur doc abt that. Be well! :) ...Read more

I've asked a lot: Of MD's this question. Some start you off on the new med right after stopping the old one. Some wait as much as two weeks. You are mixing an herb with a Tricyclic, so I'd play it safe and wait awhile. As a psychiatrist who knows about herbs. Most don't. ...Read more

I take trazodone for sleep make me sleep in 10 min but I don't sleep more then 5h do u think elavil (amitriptyline) make me sleep fast as trazodone and sleep longer?
Trazodone doesn't: Usually act this way. It typically takes longer to act, and puts people out longer, with a longer hang over the next morning than Elavil (amitriptyline) or other sleep aids. Elavil (amitriptyline) is another antidepressant in this class, but has a bad reputation for side effects, mostly weight gain (not so for Trazodone). Check with your MD for dosages and also for alternative sleepers... ...Read more

I am bipolat. I take viinryd elavil and nuerotin. Lately I am on edge. I am also add and take ritalin (methylphenidate). What should I change?
Bad Idea: It's a bad idea to take Ritalin (methylphenidate) if you have bipolar disorder. It can make you manic. Stimulant medications like Ritalin (methylphenidate) should be avoided in bipolar disorder. They make it worse. The best treatments for bipolar disorder are mood stabilizers. For my patients, I try and also avoid antidepressants if they have bipolar disorder. I'd see a board certified psychiatrist for the most effective treatment. ...Read more
