How long does it take for Nexium (esomeprazole) to work for reflux in babies?

How long does it take for Nexium (esomeprazole) to work for reflux in babies?

It might not help: Nexium (esomeprazole) is not helping with the reflux, it helps to reduce the stomach acidity. If your baby on a liquid diet, it's physiologic for them to have a reflux. Try elevated head of the bed, thickened the food, efficient burping technique. But I would not recommend Nexium (esomeprazole) for a small baby. It mess up with the digestion and promote unhealthy bacterial overgrowth. ...Read more

I've taken Nexium (esomeprazole) this morning can I take linzess this afternoon

Probably fine: Linzess (linaclotide) is usually taken on an empty stomach, about 30 minutes before breakfast. If taken soon after a high-fat meal, it can cause diarrhea or more frequent movements. I would avoid taking both Nexium (esomeprazole) and Linzess on the same day if Nexium (esomeprazole) has ever caused you to have diarrhea (a possible side effect). ...Read more

Once I have acid reflux I need to take nexium (esomeprazole) for. How many days or until the symptom goes off?

1-4 days to benefit: PPI's differ as to duration of action, side effects, tolerance, cost/insurance coverage. All PPI's are equally efficacious, so what options exist after you complete your course of esomeprazole depends on your therapeutic response (e.g. symptom resolution, persistence, recurrence?) as well as the cause of your gastritis (e.g. if H.pylori was found, has it been treated to eradication?) ...Read more

How much Nexium (esomeprazole) can I take in a day? How would you suggest I transition from Prilosec to Nexium (esomeprazole)?

No transition needed: Prilosec is the parent compound for Nexium (esomeprazole). If you tolerate one you will likely tolerate the other. Maximum dosing for Nexium (esomeprazole) is 40mg BID (e.g. one 40mg pill before breakfast and one 40mg pill before dinner). Lack of response to that dose obligates further evaluation--in other words, your problems may be due to oversecretion of acid or not entirely due to acid. ...Read more

Have bad reflux for years. Only help is nexium (esomeprazole). Can I take this forever? What are the risks? I have a good diet already.

Liquid antacids work: If your problem genuinely is acid-related (e.g. Reflux, heartburn, peptic ulcer), then liquid antacids *have to* work. Simple chemistry (acid/base) dictates that this is the case. The base (antacid) neutralizes any excess acid, creating water and salts. Try tapering nexium, (esomeprazole) and if there is heartburn, use maalox (prn). Stomach acid has an original reason: sterilizing and breaking down foods. ...Read more

How can I time taking Nexium or acid relievers with adderall? I usually take 1 adderall (20 mg, not xr) when I wake up, and 2nd a few hours later.

Nexium: Nexium type medications (ppi's) should be taken in the morning before eating any food, as they are designed to block the release of stomach acids. If you eat or take any other medications before taking nexium, stomach acids would then be released. Your pharmacist can also be of help in answering questions about your medications. ...Read more

When is the best time of day to take a PPI like Nexium (esomeprazole)? How long does it take before their effect wears off after taking one? Thanks

Dropping That Acid: In general it's advised to take at 'bedtime'because gastric acid secretion is higher between 10pm and 2am in most people. If you are taking a delayed release (DR)PPI then taking it sooner might be better. Everyone is different and so are the drugs; you'll have to find out for yourself your best dose and times. For some twice a day is better Wear-off time is longer for the DR, for the other about a day ...Read more

Barrett's Esophagus: Studies show the risk of esophageal cancer rises approximately 0.5% a year after a diagnosis of Barretts Esophagus. That means after 20 years, the risk is 10%. GERD is highly associated with Barrett's esophagus so you should continue to treat your GERD. Always follow up with your MD!
