According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Is biotin safe to take while pregnant? If so, what is the max daily dose? I would like to take 2500 mcg/day.
Yes: Recent research suggests up to 50% of pregnant women are deficient in biotin and deficiency can increase the risk of birth defects. 5000 mcg is a relatively large dose but it is perfectly safe- there is no evidence that too much biotin has ever hurt anyone! Biotin: Prenatal vitamin formulations are an excellent multivitamin for both the pregnant and non-pregnant alike. Without knowing the specific brand of prenatals you are using, many brands already contain biotin so you would not likely need additional biotin. If your particular brand does not contain biotin, there would be no problem in adding biotin to your daily vitamin supplementation. ...Read more

Do taking folic acid and biotin together help in the quality of egg released during ovulation while trying to get pregnant?
Folic Acid Important: Folic acid is extremely important for women trying to get pregnant. Taking 400 mcg of Folic Acid daily for at least 2 months before conception decreases the risk of neural tube defects such as spina bifida. Biotin is an important for cell growth, but we get enough without needing supplements. Folic acid & biotin are not going to change the "quality" of the egg itself. ...Read more
M 8 weeks pregnant, is there any Problem If I take biotin 5000 in morning and nestabs abc prenatal vitamins capsule n soft gel capsule one at night?
Probably not: But biotin deficiency is rare and biotin readily available from dietary sources so that the need for the supplement is questionable, especially in such a large dose. There is really no data to indicate harm in taking it, but in pregnancy we like to err on the side of caution and avoid things that are not clearly indicated. ...Read more
Yes: Having hypothryroidism does not affect your need for vitamins. The only concern is that taking calcium supplements can interfere with absorption of thyroid hormone, so if the penatal vitamin has calcium take it at least 2 hours after taking thyroid. Also, I advise having your doctor check your free T3 level- if not in the upper half of the normal range consider adding liothyronine (t3). ...Read more

Doubtful: It is unusual to get your period early, more than a day or two, when you are on birth control pills and taking them correctly. If I am pregnant can I continue taking 5000 mcg of biotin if prenatal pills do not contain biotin and trubiotics one a day?
5000 mcg of biotin: Daily seems like an awful lot. The amount the Institute of Medicine has determined is adequate for pregnant women is 30 mcg/day! Usually it is fairly easy to get this in the diet from well-cooked eggs, wheat germ, whole grain bread and cereal. Trubiotics are probiotics, I believe. Discuss taking these with your obstetrician; she/he may recommend an alternative or discontinuation altogether. ...Read more

Hello, im currently taking 5000mcg of biotin supplements and 1000mcg of msm supplements but feel like im 1 week pregnant, can this harm my baby?
Caution re: MSM:
Biotin is perfectly safe & may help balance your blood sugars. I would be cautious about msm. Like most substances, its safety has not been studied during pregnancy. While not inherently toxic, msm helps our bodies to detoxify & it may be unwise to expose your baby to the toxins it stirs up. Best to err on the side of caution and avoid it for now. See
