Doctor insights on:
Can I Take Benadryl While On Spironolactone
Yes: Good that you asked, always exercise caution with multiple medications
Yes: As long as you are aware that this may make you drowsy- perhaps that's what you want in the first place.
Benadryl (diphenhydramine): It ususally makes you have a dry mouth and get very sleepy.
Doses?: Depends on the dose of Benadryl (diphenhydramine). If you have insomnia, sleep hygiene is an often overlooked, yet more effective treatment, than medications. In addition, the combination of medications could impair decision making, cause undesired drowsiness, and other side effects. Speak with your doctor, before taking any combination of medications. Do not drive/operate heavy machinery under their influence.See 1 more doctor answer
Benadryl (diphenhydramine): Taking medication that expired almost 5 years ago is probably not a good idea. It may be safe, but I don't know for sure. If we were in the Zombie apocalypse and you had no other choice I would say go for it. But since generic diphenhydramine is cheap, why don't you make a trip to your local store and buy some new.
More sleepy: Nothing serious at these low doses although you may feel more sleepy since the sedation effects of ech medicine add up. But it should be fine after 12-18 hours.
Should be ok if...: If a person had no problems taking meloxicam (Mobic) in the past for some medical condition, and separately had no problem taking diphenhydramine (Benadryl) in the past, then she should be ok taking the medications at the same time. If worried, she can ask her doctor who prescribed the meloxicam. Benadryl does cause drowsiness, so can be unsafe for certain activities such as driving or piloting.
Talk 2 dr/pharmacist: There are no particular drug-drug interactions, but we don't know what other medications you are on, or what your other health issues are. Benadryl is mildly sedating and may antagonize some of the effects of adderall. An occasional benadryl for an allergic problem or insomnia is likely to be fine, while regular use of it may be a problem for you. Talk to your prescriber and/or your pharmacist.See 1 more doctor answer
Yes: You can take them together. If you are sensitive to the sedating effects of antihistamines, you should not take them at the same time. It would be better to take Allegra in the morning or afternoon and then Benadryl (diphenhydramine) in the evening before bed. However, if you don't feel sleepy after taking antihistamines, it would not be harmful to take them together.
Yes....but: You can take both. Be careful as both medications can make you sleepy.
Probably: It is a category B drug that is usually safe during pregnancy. I would ask your OB to be complete and let him know any OTC medications you are taking
9 months, longer: As long as you want and your doctor agrees, but spironolactone doesn't really work well until you've taken it 9 months to a year.
Yes: But both are sedating, so start with a low dose. Discuss it with your doctor.See 2 more doctor answers
