Can I Take Benadryl And Zyrtec Together
Is it safe to take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and Zyrtec together? I was put on Zyrtec for an allergic reaction with steroids for swelling and it's keeping me awake.
Not really: These are both antihistamines. If both are needed then physician guidance should be sought. ...Read more
Zyrtec and Benadryl (diphenhydramine): Hello. These two antihistamines taken together will probably cause sedation. As physicians, we often times double up on antihistamines in challenging cases but I usually use non-sedating antihistamines when I do this. There are other medications that may work better than this combination. Check with your doctor for other options. ...Read more
Probably not helpful: Both drugs need to be absorbed by the GI system before they take effect to stop itching and sneezing (can take up to 1 hr). Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can dry up mucus (and make you sleepy), which zyrtec will not do at any time. If you have taken zyrtec for several days without relief from itching or sneezing, you may have something besides allergies (e.g. A cold) or need a different treatment. See your doctor. ...Read more
Yes you can: You can take both medications at the same time providing that you follow the recommended otc doses. ...Read more
Well, I took Benadryl (diphenhydramine) about 12 hours ago and I was wondering, may I take zyrtec?
Antihistamines: Yes you can, but you really should have some doctor guidance with your medications, because you did not mention what symptoms you are treating with the antihistamines and they may not be the ideal medication if you are not responding to one and need to add another. Talk to your doctor. ...Read more
I took a zyrtec about 12 hrs ago and was wondering if it was ok to take one benadryl (diphenhydramine)?
It is not harmful to take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) after Zyrtec- both medications are antihistamines and generally you would not need to take both of them
Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a stronger antihistamine and may help with symptoms unresolved by Zyrtec - it often has more sedation as side effect than Zyrtec ...Read more
Not a good choice: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a short acting antihistamine. Zyrtec is a long acting antihistamine. You may overdose if taking both at the same time or taking both in the same day. Consider a better allergy medication if zyrtec is not working well or if you have been taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) longer than 5 days. ...Read more

Can I give my 2 year old children's Benadryl (diphenhydramine) at night.... and how much.....she takes zyrtec in the morning?
Zyrtec (cetirizine) + Benedryl: The occassional use of Benedryl for breakthrough allergy symptoms in addition to regular use of Zyrtec (cetirizine) should generally not cause any problems. Dosing of Benedryl is based on your child's current weight. A simple phone call to your pediatrician should be all that is needed to confirm that the appropriate doses of Zyrtec (cetirizine) and Benedryl are being given. ...Read more

Depends: If you only have eye itching, runny nose, or sneezing, either may help but can make you groggy (especially with Benadryl). However if you have asthma or nasal congestion, you are out of luck. If the cat allergy is severe, nothing will work well with continuing exposure and allergy shots may be your best bet. ...Read more

I'm allergic to benadryl, (diphenhydramine) have been since I was little. I stopped breathing and swelled up. What else can I take? Is zyrtec okay?
Allergy to benadryl (diphenhydramine): If you had such a severe reaction years ago to benadryl, (diphenhydramine) you should be under the care of an allergist to help protect you, from other allergy attacks that could be severe. It may be that you reacted to something that was in the Benadryl (diphenhydramine) rather than Benadryl (diphenhydramine) itself. ...Read more

Avoid combination: Both Zyrtec & Benadryl (diphenhydramine) are antihistamines and as such, should not be taken together in same 24hr period due to potential interactions (http://www. Drugs. Com/interactions-check. Php? Drug_list=896-1617, 569-286). Maximum dose of Zyrtec is 10mg daily so best to avoid exceeding that amount. Check out goo. Gl/2dmzkm, goo. Gl/v31okZ & http://goo. I had an allergic reaction (bugbite) and was given steroids and zyrtec. Can I take Benadryl (diphenhydramine) for itch before bed if I take both of those in the morning?
Yes: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is one of the best anti-itch antihistamines, and can be taken together with zyrtec and steroids. The only caution is that as you take more antihistamine, there is an increased likelihood of drowsiness. This obviously isn't a problem at bedtime, and will help you sleep through the itchiness, but be very careful about taking extra antihistamines if you'll be driving or operating machinery. ...Read more
Can I take Zyrtec in the morning and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) at night for postnasal drip? Need relief in the morning. Going to ENT in December.
Every day, glands in the linings of your nose make about a quart of mucus each day.
The excess can come out of the nostrils -- that’s a runny nose. When the mucus runs down the back of your nose to your throat, it's called postnasal drip.
