I've been diagnosed with major depressive disorder, appetite lost. Can i take prenatal vitamins though i'm not pregnant to replace those lost?

Yes: Yes, prenatal vitamins are fine -- however, are you also on some medicine for your depression? You don't list any, and vitamins alone will probably not be enough to help your depression. If you haven't already, please consult a psychiatrist -- if this psychiatrist does not also do talk therapy, you'll benefit from seeing a psychologist as well. ...Read more

Pregnancy (Definition)

If you're pregnant or planning to get pregnant, there are many things you can do to give your baby a healthy start: Regular prenatal visits along with laboratory testing, ultrasounds, prenatal vitamins and immunizations (like the flu shot and whopping cough booster). Now's the time to eat healthy, stay hydrated, and ...Read more

Having hypothyroidism is it safe to take prenatal vitamin and biotin even if i'm not pregnant?

Having hypothyroidism is it safe to take prenatal vitamin and biotin even if i'm not pregnant?

Yes: Having hypothryroidism does not affect your need for vitamins. The only concern is that taking calcium supplements can interfere with absorption of thyroid hormone, so if the penatal vitamin has calcium take it at least 2 hours after taking thyroid. Also, i advise having your doctor check your free T3 level- if not in the upper half of the normal range consider adding liothyronine (t3). ...Read more

Is it okay to take 1 prenatal vitamin, 1 Azo yeast pill, and the 3 required hair skin and nail vitamins in 1 day? And no, I'm not pregnant.

Is it okay to take 1 prenatal vitamin, 1 Azo yeast pill, and the 3 required hair skin and nail vitamins in 1 day? And no, I'm not pregnant.

Skin and nail: You may be taking more Vitamins than you need. The Prenatal Vitamin likely has everything you need. Too many Vitamins can actually cause more harm than good. You would have to read the contents of the skin and nail Vitamins and see if they overlap with the prenatal (which they likely do). Then total all of it up to see if you exceed safe levels. One Vitamin a day is usually enough ...Read more

I had a MC on May, Currently taking Vitex and prenatal vitamin while TTC, Should i continue to take Vitex if i fall pregnant to prevent another MC?

Talk to your doctor: While Vitex may help support progesterone, it is not proven to be enough to help to maintain pregnancy in women with insufficient levels of progesterone causing early pregnancy loss. You should talk to your doctor about more sustained progesterone treatment, if this was a factor for your miscarriage. ...Read more

Can I take biotin for ski hair and nails while pregnant along with my prenatal vitamin?

Can I take biotin for ski hair and nails while pregnant along with my prenatal vitamin?

30 micrograms biotin: Many pregnant women are deficient in biotin. A biotin deficiency in adults can cause hair loss, facial rash, numbness, tingling, depression and hallucinations, but it might also contribute to birth defects in babies with mothers who are deficient in the vitamin. Pregnant women need 30 micrograms of biotin each day, so discuss with your doctor dietary changes you can make or supplements you can add ...Read more

Hi..im 28 weeks pregnant. Is it safe to take 1,000mg of vitaminc and 400iu vitamin E daily?together with a prenatal vitamin.

Vitamin Supplements: The prenatal vitamin contains every vitamin and mineral supplement that you and your baby should need. I would not recommend adding additional vitamin supplements without first checking with your OB provider. I have seen patients develop kidney stones on 1 gram daily doses of vitamin C. Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin that can accumulate and affect blood clotting. Please check with your OB. ...Read more
