Can I run while I have a hernia?

Can I run while I have a hernia?

Depends on…: Location & size of hernia as well as whether it is at risk for incarceration (entrapment of loop/s of bowel). If it is small & easily reducible, wearing support to protect the hernia should allow you to run. If hernia worsens after running, see fp/surgeon about possible repair surgery. Read more

Should I wear my hernia belt while I run?

Should I wear my hernia belt while I run?

If it helps.: A hernia belt may help support an area where a hernia is present, which can minimize the discomfort related to the hernia. Furthermore, it may reduce the risk of bowel getting stuck in the hernia, although this is unproven. Ultimately, the best thing to do would be to have the hernia surgically repaired--at 32, you are awfully young for wearing a hernia belt. Good luck! Read more

My son has an asymtomatic anterior tibialis hernia. Is it ok to continue running? He has no pain at the moment. Thank you.

Hernia?: If there is no pain, probably ok to keep running. If you're not already doing so, a consultation with a sports medicine doctor is in order. The term hernia usually refers to the abdominal wall, and not the leg. Hope this helps! Read more

I'm an athlete with a minor hernia that is causes extreme pain when I run I I get surgery how fast will I be able to return to my intense running?

Inguinal hernia: It depends how you get it done. If you get done the traditional way, with a groin cut and mesh it will take you six weeks at least to heal completely. If you find a surgeon that does laparoscopic (tepp) hernia repair then you can get back to normal much quicker. Read more

If you are running a fever will they operate on you I am having a hernia repair and my fever is 99.7

If you are running a fever will they operate on you I am having a hernia repair and my fever is 99.7

Fevers: Fevers generally indicate an infective process somewhere in the body, many times in the upper airway. If elective surgery is performed in the face of an infection it may compromise healing and, if the fever is due to an upper respiratory tract infection, it can complicate the anesthesia which puts you at greater risk of a life threatening complication. A temperature of 99.7 is a low grade fever, and after evaluation by the general surgeon and anesthesiologist, it may be determined to allow the surgery to proceed. Read more

I have GERD grade c and hiatus hernia. Used to consume alcohol but have stopped for now. Can this condition reverse itself. I run 3 km daily.

I have GERD grade c and hiatus hernia. Used to consume alcohol but have stopped for now. Can this condition reverse itself. I run 3 km daily.

Only with effort: Gerd worsens with factors that push stomach acid back up, such as being overweight, eating large meals and laying flat...Or factors that relax your lower esophagus allowing reflux, like fatty foods, alcohol, caffeine, so running to get in shape and laying off alcohol helps a lot. But the condition is being helped by your hard work, not truly "reversed by itself". Read more

How long will it take an to recover from inguinal hernia surgery and start running again?

Weeks: Return to exercise after hernia repair is dependent on the health of the patient, method of hernia repair, and extent of surgery. Following laparoscopic hernia repair, my patients are instructed to begin aerobic exercise whenever they feel well enough. Many will be fast-walking on a treadmill or elliptical within a week, running outdoors in 2-3 weeks, and back to pre-surgical fitness in 4-6 weeks. Read more
