When is it safe to put stuffed animals or dolls in the crib?

When is it safe to put stuffed animals or dolls in the crib?

Wait...: I don't generally recommend any objects in the crib except your baby. If you must i would at least wait until over one year in age, probably closer to two years. After one year the risk of sids is greatly diminished but i would recommend a longer period of time. ...Read more

Should i be concerned if my stepson, 17 1/2 yrs old, still sleeps with a stuffed animal. He even packs it with him for vacations.?

Unsure: What is the harm? If it doesn't cause any harm, I wouldn't worry about it. Has he been through some trauma? Sometimes, people need something to help calm them, and decrease anxiety. Perhaps he just likes having something under his arm- some people sleep with a pillow there. In the long run, I don't think it's a problem unless *he's* concerned or it prevents him from interacting with others. . ...Read more

I am wondering when it is appropriate for me to give up my stuffed animals due to asthma and allergies and should I feel bad about needing to do it?

I am wondering when it is appropriate for me to give up my stuffed animals due to asthma and allergies and should I feel bad about needing to do it?

See an allergist: The only reason to give them up is if you're allergic to dust mites, and the exposure to the allergens in the toys is making your symptoms worse. Short of getting rid of them, you can reduce the allergen content by putting them in the freezer overnight to kill the dust mites, then put them in the dryer on the fluff cycle to shake most of the allergen out of them. Repeat every 1-2 months. ...Read more

Can you use a microwave to kill lice in a stuffed animal?

Yes: Lice need a host to survive, and typically won't live longer than 1-2 days on an inanimate object. They won't survive temperature extremes, so microwaving or just washing in hot water in the washing machine should do the trick. Be careful with the microwave however; if there are plastic components or materials within the stuffed animal, microwaving could cause release of noxious materials. ...Read more
