After having unprotected sex, I've been having pain while urinating, could this be simply a infection or a std? Is the only way to know, waiting?

See below: Burning with urination (aka dysuria) suggests either infection (UTI or STD) or inflammation (e.g. Non-bacterial prostatitis). Post-sex simple UTI/bladder infection quite common in females but not in males and would be concerned about possible STD (chlamydia, GC) especially if discharge from penis or just prostate inflammation. Would recommend urinalysis, urine culture, and urine for GC/Chlamydia. ...Read more

Yeast: A yeast infection is not considered a sexually transmitted disease, but men can get it from their female sex partners. Up to 15% of male partners of women with vaginal yeast infections will develop itching, a mild rash on the end of the penis, or other symptoms. Sep 30, 2014

How can I prevent an STD after I have unprotected sex?

How can I prevent an STD after I have unprotected sex?

Too late: After sex, is exactly the wrong time to think about pretection from getting an std. The only sure way to not get an std is to not have sex. That includes oral and anal sex which also have risks. Use protection always and have sex with limited partners and have each get tested often to know their status. ...Read more

Can I get std from having unprotected sex even if my partner and I are both virgins? Also I keep getting jock itches. Is there a prevention for it?

Can I get std from having unprotected sex even if my partner and I are both virgins? Also I keep getting jock itches. Is there a prevention for it?

Tinea? Yeast? Other?: It is not possible to have an STD unless one person or the other has had sex with someone else. "Jock itch" is not a term normally used in women, only men. Have you been diagnosed with tinea (same fungus group as jock itch in men)? Yeast (entirelydifferent)? Neither yeast nor tinea is sexually transmitted. Don't assume any diagnosis based only on symptoms; get professional care. ...Read more

Having unprotected sex with two different men, I always get yeast infections. Why? And what can I do to prevent it?

Having unprotected sex with two different men, I always get yeast infections. Why? And what can I do to prevent it?

Chronic Yeast: There could be several causes for this. It could be coincidental to sex...And be from something else you are ingesting. It could be irritation from the lubricant or the condom.

You may be allergic to something and the irritation in the vaginal cavity reacts with a yeast overgrowth.

Your gynecologist may need to do some testing and to put you on effective treatment. ...Read more

If you had unprotected sex with someone who might have hiv. Are there preventative treatments/pills you can take to prevent HIV infection?

I missed my period, have excess milky white vaginal discharge I do not have any infections, STDs/STIs, I'm not on birth control had unprotected sex?

Some thoughts...: In a woman with regular periods, some causes of a late period include: excessive weight loss or weight gain, increased exercising, emotional stress, having an illness, traveling, medicines (like birth control pills), hormonal imbalances, etc… Seeing a doctor is a good idea if symptoms are persistent, recurring, or worrisome. How long before you figure out you have STD after unprotected sex?

Depends: This depends on which sti you are talking about. Gonorrhea and chlamydia come on quickly as does herpes. But not all herpes infections cause noticeable symptoms. Hiv, hpv, syphilis and hepatitis often have no symptoms until later stages and take longer to detect in the blood stream. Best to consult with a doctor with experience in stis for proper testing. ...Read more

I've had unprotected sex, and have cervical mucus, should I be concerned about an STD?

Yes, get checked: If "cervical mucus" means you have noticed increased or abnormal vaginal discharge, for sure get it checked out, including STD testing. Any new or abnormal vaginal discharge needs professional evaluation, and STDs are very common at your age. Also I hope you've had HPV vaccine and are on good contraception, assuming you're not planning to get pregnant. ...Read more

I had unprotected sex with my partner and my side of my penis is swollen and my partner and I have no stds?

Penile edema?: This might be the result of minor trauma during sex. If painless and clears up within a day, probably nothing to worry about. See a doctor if it persists, is painful, coninues to enlarge, etc. Even without pain, gonorrhea and chlamydia can do this, and you may still need testing for STDs; you can't be sure based on symptoms alone. ...Read more

2-3 weeks and 3 mos.: There are many possible sexually transmitted infections, including syphilis, hiv, hepatitis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, trichomonas, and human papilloma virus (hpv). Some of these have helpful tests to check for them, others do not. How long these tests take to turn positive varies, with some taking as long as 3 months. It is ok to check after 2-3 weeks, but I would check again after 3 months. ...Read more

I have had unprotected sex once & it wa my first having unprotected sex & it was his first time having sex, could I have an STD?

Unlikely: If you are both telling the truth, then you should not have concern about sexually transmitted diseases. However, if either of you have, in fact, been exposed previously, then it is possible. Your physician can check for gonorrhea and chlamydia when they do your pap smear, and you should ask them to do so. ...Read more

My boyfriend is the only person I had unprotected sex with and my STD test came up positive and his came up negative. I got the treatment already.

STDs often are found: ...in only one person in a couple. They're not always transmitted. The tests aren't perfect, can give false results. Most STDs go away even without treatment, so bf's infection might have cleared before he was tested. Or he was treated but didn't tell you. Syphilis is only transmitted when early; maybe you're beyond that stage. If gonorrhea, chlamydia or syphilis, bf still needs treatment. ...Read more

Hi, I’m scared that I could possibly have an STD but the only “unprotected sex” i’ve had was from rape. A year ago & 2 years ago. Could I have one?

??? protected???: Condoms don't stop all STD's so if you are sexually active, you may have picked up one or more. Regular pap smears and STD's screens are a valuable resource to any sexually active woman. Some STI'S can have no symptoms but still make you sterile if untreated. ...Read more

I had unprotected sex with a virgin girl who had unprotected oral sex with 3 guys before and I'm worried. What STD tests to do and when? Is it needed?

Probably not needed: STDs are uncommonly transmitted by fellatio (mouth to penis), and mostly cause obvious symptoms. If in the next 2-3 weeks you don't have abnormal discharge from the penis, or penile blisters or sores, testing probably isn't necessary. Of course you can always get tested for STDs if you remain nervous and would like the reassurance of negative tests. ...Read more

HIV: The recommended procedure is to test for antibody at 2-4 weeks, three and six months. If you want earlier info you can either get a p24 antigen (fairly accurate) or an RNA pcr, the latter being expensive. Hopefully you are being tested simultaneously for other stds, and learning not to have unprotected sex. ...Read more

I had unprotected sex June 23rd 2017 when Should I get tested for a std?

4-5 days, 6 weeks: Smart move to be tested for STD if your partner might be at risk, e.g. other partners recently. A vaginal swab test for gonorrhea and chlamydia is accurate any time more than 4-5 days after exposure; that test can be done in the next few days. Syphilis and HIV blood tests need to wait until 6 weeks after exposure (unless whoever you see for gon/chl testing suggests earlier because esp high risk.) ...Read more
