Menstrual Cycle (Definition)

The menstrual cycle begins with the shedding of the uterine lining, resulting in bleeding from the vagina. A few weeks later, one ovary releases an egg and the uterine lining thickens in preparation for a potential pregnancy. Pregnancy can occur at this stage if sperm fertilizes the egg. If the egg is not fertilized, the egg will leave your body and ...Read more

By : By the date of this post about a week has passed. I am sorry your question was not answered sooner. To use your question as an example, i would recommend in a situation like this to see a medical professional if the bleeding is very heavy( as in what you described in your post). A blood transfusion is often needed and possibly a d&c, a surgical procedure to clean out the uterus. Please give us an update. I hope you are well. ...Read more

I am trying to conceive and my cycle is due tomorrow but today I took a ovulation test and it came out positive what does that mean? And are you suppose to be ovulating a day before period

I am trying to conceive and my cycle is due tomorrow but today I took a ovulation test and it came out positive what does that mean? And are you suppose to be ovulating a day before period

No: I would recheck with first morning urine (higher level of hormone then and makes test more accurate) Can have false positive result. If your cycles are very regular then you should not be ovulating now. If your period does not start when it should then it becomes more difficult to predict when you ovulate. Question- if your cycles are regular why are you doing ovulation test now? Good luck. ...Read more

How likely is it for me to be pregnant if ive missed a pill during the week i ovulated and took Plan B after 72 hrs. Im having mild bleeding and cramp?

How likely is it for me to be pregnant if ive missed a pill during the week i ovulated and took Plan B after 72 hrs. Im having mild bleeding and cramp?

Hard to say exactly : But suboptimal birth control use has about a 10% failure rate and even after 72 hours (in the range of 72 - 120 hour range) is about 72-87% effective. So overall your chances of being pregnant are quite low but still possible. ...Read more

HPT: Do a home pregancy test, but it sounds like your period started early. 'implantation bleeding' certainly wouldn't be heavy like a period. ...Read more

I have a very long menstrual cycle and short periods, is this a problem when I want to get pregnant?

I have a very long menstrual cycle and short periods, is this a problem when I want to get pregnant?

Yes: It may indicate an underlying problem with the ovaries or the hormones produced. It may actually indicate that the ovaries are not producing as many eggs which in turn leads to lower hormone values. Or it may represent something else entirely. But better to have evaluated now to know exactly what is going on and how it could affect fertility. ...Read more

What would cause a menstrual cycle to last two months and counting with heavy bleeding and clotting? I have two children with a (miscarage in between i had to have a dnc ) and it had been 8 moths since i had a cycle before this one

Your : Your symptoms are consistent with dysfunctional uterine bleeding (dub). This can happen when hormones are fluctuating. You had a long time period without ovulating it appears (8 months), and are now having very heavy bleeding. However two months is a very long time and i would urge you to seek evaluation for that and have your blood level checked. Also please be sure that your pap smear is normal. ...Read more

I'm 24 and trying to conceive but my cycle is very irregular. I can go a few weeks to a few months without having my menstraul cycle?

Body temp & fluids: There is a website that provides signs of ovulation beyond counting days from an irregular period. It will teach how to evaluate your "wetness" and how to notice the sharp rise in your temperature just after you ovulate - that's the most fertile time! http://americanpregnancy.Org/gettingpregnant/signsovulation.Html good luck! ...Read more

If i ovulated cd18 and I have a 30 day cycle, is it too late in my cycle to conceive?

Depends : If you ovulated on day 18 then one would expect a 32 day cycle. On your question you don't mention what cycle day you had intercourse. Having sex around ovulation increases the chances. ...Read more
