Can I have scarring from a case of shingles I had last year.?

Can I have scarring from a case of shingles I had last year.?

Yes, scars can occur: Shingles can cause lesions in a dermatonal distributuion, i.e. Along a nerve root. These vesicles can scar. To decrease the risk of poor scars, one should take a course of an antiviral agent (e.g. Zovirax) and a 6 day Medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pack as well as topicals. It is extremely important not to scratch the lesions. For 6 monthes avoid the sun on the scars, use vit e or aloe or Mederma 2 times a day. ...Read more

I had a mild case of shingles two years ago. Should I get shingles vaccinations?

I had a mild case of shingles two years ago. Should I get shingles vaccinations?

No: Recent zoster is more effective than the shot. Shingles may occur a second time but this is uncommon. Consider getting a shot in about 15 years. There may be something better then. Shingles can occur at any age, but in normal people people it becomes common after age 60. The shot cuts the risk in half. ...Read more

I have scarring on the cornea of my eye from a case of shingles I had last year. Any cure for it?

I have scarring on the cornea of my eye from a case of shingles I had last year. Any cure for it?

Probably: The cornea is notoriously poor at getting rid of scar tissue. The scarring creates opacities that disturb the vision, sometimes to a significant degree. If superficial, it can sometimes be modified by a laser treatment but most are deep enough that a corneal transplantation is the better option. Check in with your corneal specialist to have this sorted out. ...Read more

I have black periods is this a side affect from the implannon?. I also have had a C-section 2 years ago and have had thrush a lot this year

Not likely black!: Vaginal blood can get pretty dark but I have not seen black vaginal blood. I do not believe the color is directly related to the implanon. A c section 2 years ago does not lead to black blood. I am not aware of a direct cause of thrush from either ...Read more

Within the last year I have started suffering from premature ejaculation, but have never had issues before. How can I prevent this? What caused it?

Within the last year I have started suffering from premature ejaculation, but have never had issues before. How can I prevent this? What caused it?

Some ideas: A condom or a dab of a topical anesthetic on your glans may do the trick. Your physician can offer a very low dose of a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. Or you and your partner(s) can learn and practice the squeeze technique -- this is fun, will let you reprogram your nervous system to make you a superlatively excellent lover, and is your best long-term solution. Best wishes. ...Read more

I have suffered from Bartholin Abcesses for the past 2 years on and off. I had a word catheter fitted a year ago but it failed. A few months ago the c?

Surgery...: If a Bartholin abcess is refractory to conservative treatment with draining and Word catheter placement, surgery may be necessary. There are several types of surgery that can be done. Excision of the entire gland is the best procedure but needs to be done when the gland is small and uninfected. If it remains abcessed, the gland can be marsupialized so that it can continue to drain. Best wishes! ...Read more

I had a PE last year due to having two abdominal surgeries. Im getting sick with pneumonia/cold type symptoms. could it cause a PE?

I had a PE last year due to having two abdominal surgeries. Im getting sick with pneumonia/cold type symptoms. could it cause a PE?

UR higher risks of P: The respiratory illness is not likely to directly cause a PE, but you are higher risk. The immobility and changes in blood clotting after surgery are high risk factors, but you have shown you can get a PE. If you become very immobile due to this illness, you are at risk of forming clots in your legs which can become PEs. Staying well hydrated and mildly active and not bedridden reduces risk. ...Read more

What can I do if my wife suffered an extreme case of shingles two years ago. Can she receive the shingles vaccination?

What can I do if my wife suffered an extreme case of shingles two years ago. Can she receive the shingles vaccination?

Probably yes: A person can have shingles more than once. Her primary care doctor can evaluate to see if there is a weakness in her immune system (or just bad luck, older age, or other bodily stressors) that allowed her to have the first case of shingles. The doctor can give some advice on whether or not the patient should get the shingles vaccine to help prevent a recurrence of shingles (some age limits apply). ...Read more
