Yes: Unfortunately all sugar is fuel for the bacteria that cause dental decay. Also the acidity in some foods - especially fruit - damages the enamel in teeth which speeds up tooth decay. I have to have my gallblader removed, how different will my digestion be, and diet have to be once it is gone? I eat lots of nuts, seeds, fruit, salad
See answer: If healthy, no major change, other than the GB helps digest fats by secreting bile acids, so some people may have to decrease fatty meals, but most people have no issues at all. The foods you mention would all be fine to eat and would not cause any issues when your GB was removed. I had my GB removed due to Stones years ago, and I did not have to change my diet at all. Best wishes. ...Read more

I've been told to avoid cruciferous veggies due to my hypothyroidism. Is it ok to drink the greens as a juice? I feel that I need these in my diet.
Juice worse for you: Eating large amounts of cruciferous vegetables can suppress thyroid function, but it's not clear how much. Moderate consumption doesn't have much effect esp. if cooked. Cooking degrades the chemicals that interfere with thyroid. If you eat large amounts raw or juiced then monitor thyroid levels thyroid to see if you need to take more. Taking iodine may balance this. I took my birth control pill with a sip of pineapple juice today because I didn't have water. Is it okay, or will the pineapple juice effect my pill?
Okay: You'll be fine. The best information available suggests that, if anything, there would be a slight increase in your birth control pill's levels - and that's assuming pineapple juice were to behave like grapefruit juice, which there is no guarantee that it does. And with the sip you took, there is very little likelihood there would be that rise in levels anyway. I don't expect any difference. ...Read more

Can I have Werther's Original Caramel Hard Candies the day before my colonoscopy? I am on a clear liquid diet.
Yes: The hard candies will dissolve into soft or liquid form before they reach your bowel. While they are not quite clear, they are close enough. And the volume they would produce would be very small. I probably would not do more than 5 or 6 of them, though; maybe 10 at the most. None on day of procedure. Clearer/lighter hard candy would be better. Keep up the water!! Good luck! ...Read more

I need help! I have a blood test on the 5th of Nov.I'm not a heavy smoker, 3 cigs a day. I have been taking a lot of cranberry pills and drinking water will that help somewhat? I really have to have this weight loss surgery on the 9th
Even 3 cigarettes: daily can be harmful. If the cranberry juice is sweetened it will be full of sugar and cause more harm than it is worth. Please get the blood test and follow doctor's orders, especially after the surgery or you won't be successful. If you cooperate you are much more likely to have a good outcome. It can be: A gluten-free diet can include any food that does not contain gluten and orange juice certainly qualifies. If i cut sugar out my diet except for maybe a cup of orange juice a day and drink only water and do weightlifting and walking will i lose weight?
Maybe: You have to control two things: calories ingested calories burned that's all. The 3rd factor is your genetically given physiology/metabolism, and how efficiently you burn/utilize calories, and where the body prefers to store fat. Honestly not too much to do about these factors despite all the gimmicks that shysters promote. ...Read more

Why is it low?: Do you know why is it low? Is it because you're on medicines that artificially lower it? There are rare genetic conditions that can lower potassium? Or was this a random lab finding. If it was a random finding, realize potassium levels can fluctuate moment to moment. Also machines have error too. If its borderline low, don't go nuts with a high potassium diet. If it's markedly low, talk to doc! ...Read more
When I have orange juice(for glowing skin) or anything sour-ish i develop acidity. Any alternatives? I take vitamin C tablets daily. Will that suffice
Orange : Orange juice is tricky - we've been told for years how healthy it is, right? True, it has vitamin c, calcium (if you buy the calcium fortified stuff), and it tastes good, but there are a few other things to keep in mind: - an 8 oz glass of oj has almost as much sugar as a can of soda - oj has little to no fiber, so that sugar rush can cause an Insulin spike which eventually leads to high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure and weight gain. Eating the whole fruit is much better for you because the fiber found in the fruit causes the sugars to be digested more slowly which avoids the Insulin spike - the stuff you buy in the carton has been processed with many chemicals to increase shelf life - even the expensive stuff! if you must have oj, it's much better to squeeze it yourself. The 2 best bits of dietary advice i can give pertaining to juice is "everything in moderation" or "bypass the juice and just eat the fruit". Your body will thank you. ...Read more

Not really: Review of current literature demonstrates a overall inconsistent set of data to suggest that orange juice, or its constituents (like vitamin c), have any broad sweeping or amazing effect on immune function. Most review papers have demonstrated that while vitamin c may reduce some symptoms of acute infections, it has not been shown to reduce the number of infections or work as prophylaxis for cold. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
