Probably not: Its hard to be certain. Cold sores can easily become colonized by normal skin bacteria, which probably caused the pus you saw. The only way to tell if it is MRSA is to get a culture. Oral herpes, cankers: Are you sure cold sores (oral herpes)? Herpes usually is on outside of lips, usuallynear the same spot each time. Painful sores in the mouth are canker sores, not herpes. There usually are no obvious triggers, but either herpes or cankers can follow other infections, like colds, flu, etc (hence the names "cold sore" and "fever blister" for herpes). Not a cold sore: Cold sores occur on the outside of the mouth/borders of lips, not in the mouth and are caused by the herpes virus.
