When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more
I had a dental xray and two fillings done about a week or two after ovulation and I just found out I'm pregnant. Could there be any damage to fetus??
Usually ok: I prefer to not do any dental work on pregnant women during the first and third trimesters because those are critical stages. I really don't have any worries about doing fillings during the second trimester. My biggest concern is if the patient has high anxiety during the treatment which could upset the pregnancy. If the treatment is not an emergency, it can usually wait until after. ...Read more
Some differences: The dentist will probably not lower you all the way back in the chair. Some ob/gyn will not let you use nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and would like most treatment to be done in the 2nd trimester. Talk with your OB and dentist-both are used to working with pregnant women and it's important to keep up your checkups during this time to keep you and baby healthy. ...Read more

I had a silver filling fitted 4days ago n im 8weeks pregnant and I wondered do they leak once fitted n are they harmful?
Silver filling: They generally leak slowly over time and more so after the first two years even if they look fine according to research. As to harmful-in my opinion no unless you are allergic to non precious metals. In future try to wait until after the first trimester; check with your obgyn. ...Read more
Amalgam fillings safe while pregnant? I've heard mixed thoughts on them and recently just got 2 I'm almost 35 weeks, nervous!
Yes: The mercury is a non-issue. No evidence that it will harm you or the baby. That said, we try to get all dental work done in the second trimester. If you are having pain, that's another story. Rule of thumb though, get all your dental work done in the second trimester. Cleanings can be done at any time. ...Read more

Pregnancy Filling: The first question I would have for you is how necessary is the filling to be done right now. 2nd- can it wait until after delivery? If there are no consequences for waiting putting it off a few months might be a better choice. Yes a filling can be done safely at any stage of your pregnancy but unless there are compelling reasons to do it now, why not wait until your pregnancy is a non-issue? ...Read more
Is it safe to get composite filling while pregnant? 35 weeks pregnant and I have two bad ones that need to be filled!
Absolutely safe: However, a dentist should go over your complete medical (and dental) history, and consult with both your obstetrician and you regarding some basic safety precautions. In most cases, not getting needed dental care is more deleterious to both you and your unborn child. Congratulations and best of luck! ...Read more

Baby will be fine: Silver fillings have been used for over 150 years and on millions if not billions of teeth. My dental filling fell out while eating and I swollowed it, pregnant 37 weeks should I be worry now?
Yes and no: I'm not worried that you swallowed it...It'll pass. What concerns me is why it fell out. Many times when fillings fall out, it's because there is a lot of decay under it (though not always). Get to a dentist asap to have it checked out. The last thing you want is for this tooth to start hurting right before you go into labor or for a dental infection to endanger your baby! ...Read more
Is it safe to have dental filling, and tooth pull out, using anesthesia and pain relifes during pregnancy?
Pregnancy and Tx: Most dentists & doctors agree that all elective dental treatment should be postponed until after delivery. I'm 8weeks pregnant and had a silver filling placed while pregnant has had cracked tooth n needed it will my unborn baby be ok I have read it harmful?
You are ok!: The amount of mercury in an amalgam "silver" filling is negligible. Treating your tooth problem properly allows you to continue through your pregnancy without that tooth being at risk for further problems, decay, and infection which are more detrimental to the health of your baby than getting a filling. Although I would prefer to place composite fillings free of metal, your baby should be fine. ...Read more
