Can I give to my son of 5 months tusnel and benadril at the same time?

Can I give to my son of 5 months tusnel and benadril at the same time?

5month with meds: I am not familar with tusnel but it sounds like some sort of cough med. Generally meds are avoided that early in life - but if needed are usually dosed by weight. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) should be fine at 5mg/kg/24 /6 (2.2lbs per kg) and the liquid is 12.5mg/teaspoon. Ave wt for a 5 month =8kg (total dose =40mg/6 or a little under 1/2 teaspoon of Benadryl (diphenhydramine) every 6 hours. ...Read more

My son is on clarithromycin and at night time can't stop coughing due to mucus. Can I give him Benadryl (diphenhydramine)??

What it he on the : antibiotic for? Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is an antihistamine that can thicken secretions. If he has pneumonia, Reactive Airway Disease or mild asthma, or is younger than 6 years, OTC cold & cough medicines are not recommended. Antihistamines are for allergies. I suggest you him back to his pediatrician to determine if it's safe to suppress his cough at night. Push clear liquids so his cough is loose & " juicy". ...Read more

Dear Doctor, I need advise of using Benadryl-D Allergy and Sinus for my son. I plan to give him 0.5 tsp only at night. Is that safe?

Likely ok: However the D part tends to keep him awake while the Benadryl (diphenhydramine) part make him sleepy. Hopefully these effects balance out but one cannot be sure. Whether he should be taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) D is another question. ...Read more

My son is 10 years, he has a severe pollen allergy. I gave him zyrtec at 5:00pm , can I give Benadryl (diphenhydramine) at 12:00am?

Agree with Dr Novick: Are the tree pollens starting up already where you live? If the combo cetirizine and Benadryl (diphenhydramine) aren't working consider starting a steroid nasal spray (quite safe actually) or could he be coming down with a cold? ...Read more

My son is 9 months old roughly between 17-19 pounds and he had 1.25ml of fever reducer about 3 hours ago, is it ok to give him Benadryl (diphenhydramine)?

No infant Benadryl (diphenhydramine): Best not to give Benadryl (diphenhydramine) to your 9 month old for a fever. It may make him sleepy, but is easily overdosed, which is why cold medications are not recommended for infants anymore without a doctor's prescription. Use sterile saline drops in only one side of the nose at a time to help clear secretions. A cool mist vaporizer in the room. Lukewarm sponge baths if high fever and see your MD. ...Read more

My son is 16 weeks old. I noticed at our night time feeding Simon's left eyelid is red/swollen. What can I do for him? Is he too young for Benadryl (diphenhydramine)?

Yes: Take a picture and show your doctor to help make a diagnosis. The fact it is intermittent makes it less a concern. There may be some intermittent blockage of the tear duct or it may be positional. All the best. ...Read more
