My baby is diagnosis with herpangina. His fever runs 102-103. Should I wake him to give him another dose of Motrin? His temp is rising again and he's hot
Depends: If your baby is prone to seizures due to fever, absolutely wake him. Motrin doses should be 6 hours apart at least. Other options include cool compresses, tepid (NOT COLD) bath, and being careful not to overdress him. If you want to give him medication to bring the fever down, but it's too early for the next dose of motrin, a dose of tylenol (acetaminophen) in between can help. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No: Ibuprofen is not approved for infants under 2 months of age. Further, i worry what is the Ibuprofen being given for? If the baby has fever at that very young age, the doctor must be called or the baby must be seen right away. A baby that age is not teething and Ibuprofen does not calm colic. Babies are tough to care for and your provider can help if baby has a problem that seems to need advice. ...Read more
My daughter is 12months old. She's coughing and weezing mildy. Should i be worried? I've been giving her infant's advil (ibuprofen).
M.D. visit: If she is coughing and wheezing these may be signs of asthma. I would advise an evaluation and possible treatment with albuterol depending on her exam at the physician's office. As the other answer indicated if she is eating well and not in distress, she is still able to breathe comfortably and probably won't need steroids. My 2yr old has fever of 102 keeps going up/down gave her infant Advil (ibuprofen) not working can I give it every 4hr instead of 6?
No : Children tend to get high fevers which at times can go to 105. The fever itself is not ususally a concern and it is not necessary to get it under 100 with meds. Temps that rise rapidly can trigger seizures in some children. With temps often come achiness and headaches which contribute to fussiness. The more important thing is to confirm the source of fever is not serious and then provide comfort. ...Read more

Dr prescribed liq. Motrin 1 1/2 tsp/ 6hrs -100mg/5ml. My son weighs 32lbs and is 3 yrs old.Bottle says he should only receive 1 tsp. Which do I give?
Correct dose: Your baby is 32 lbs or 14.5 kilograms. The dose is 10 mg per kilogram, making his does 145 mg. The 1 1/2 tsp is 7.5 ml or 150 mg dose. The bottle always uses weight range. For example 22-32 lbs, may be 1 tsp. That is the dose for the 22 lb baby. The manufacturer does this so a parent who over estimates the baby's weight does not overdose the baby. Trust your pediatrician to calculate the dose. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
