It seems I get a UTI shortly after my husband and I have sex but only if we use lubricating jelly, could that be the cause?

Sex causes: manipulation around the urethra, which may become contaminated with bacteria. The lubricating jelly may hold more bacteria causing more contamination. You should empty your bladder soon after sex to "clear" the urethra of bacteria and lessen the chance of infection. This may help. ...Read more

Honeymoon cystitis: Some women are genetically more prone to cystitis. The cells lining their bladders tend to be "sticky" in regards to adhering to bacteria pushed through the urethra during intercourse. Empty your bladder immediately after sex, drink lots of water to flush the bladder and try cranberry juice or pills daily. This helps prevent bacteria from adhering. Most bacterial species which can cause a UTI divide every 20 - 30 minutes. So a single bacterium entering bladder can double 24 - 36 times resulting in millions of bacteria.
