Why?: Is there a lump that was detected on physical exam? If so, then an ultrasound would be done. If there was felt to be a need to do a mammo, your abdomen could be effectively shielded. Mammos use lower energy x rays which would not penetrate very far into your body even without shielding so with shielding exposure to the fetus should not be an issue. ...Read more

No: In general we try to avoid xrays if possible during pregnancy. If imaging of the breast is needed during pregnancy a breast ultrasound is a better choice. If you are referring to an annual screening mammogram it should be done before or after pregnancy. ...Read more

Probably: In theory, the goal is minimize any ionizing radiation during pregnancy. However, if abdomen is shielded and the beam angle is away from the pelvis, then it should be ok. Obviously you need to alert the people handling your mammogram of your pregnancy status. ...Read more
