I'm on Coumadin (warfarin) and everyweek I loose blood could this make me dhydrated if so what do I drink?

I'm on Coumadin (warfarin) and everyweek I loose blood could this make me dhydrated if so what do I drink?

Just liquids: Coumadin (warfarin) is a blood thinner, it reduces clotting: how are you losing blood? Only trauma (a cut, bruise etc) would allow the effects of Coumadin (warfarin) to reduce blood volume. Your dosage may need to changed. Speak to an md, especially a hematologist. Hydration has no effect on how the medication works, other than it is healthy to stay hydrated. ...Read more

Can I take my Coumadin (warfarin) at the same time as drinking alcohol?

Can I take my Coumadin (warfarin) at the same time as drinking alcohol?

Sure BUT!!!!: I would advise anyone on Coumadin (warfarin) not to drink and if so, to drink no more that 1-2 ounces of alcohol in a 24 hour period. The risk of falls and severe injury, bleeding and even death is too great. The physical and immediate act fo taking the dose with alcohol is probably not a major issue, but why would you do it? There are not many medications that I take more serious than using coumadin (warfarin). ...Read more

I believe you can drink grape juice on Coumadin, (warfarin) but is it safe to drink Welches 100% purple grape juice?

Grape juice: 100% purple grape juice should be just fine with coumadin (warfarin). The issue is how much vitamin K is in there, and it is fairly low. I always recommend my patients eat a healthy diet, and keep the amount of vitamin K steady day in and out so that their dosing of the coumadin (warfarin) can also be steady. Best wishes to you! ...Read more

Does green coffee beans affect warfarin?

Does green coffee beans affect warfarin?

No one knows 4 sure: Warfarin is probably my least favorite of all pharmaceuticals because virtually every medicine & food seems to affect it & things that increase its activity can be dangerous. I thus try to use alternative treatments. However, regular coffee does not seem to affect it much & green coffee likely also does not. I can't find any research on this. If you take it be sure to monitor your protime to see. ...Read more

Warfarin I regularly drink whilst on warfarin for a pe is it really that bad?

Bad idea: Since warfarin works by interfering with the liver's production of clotting factors and heavy alcohol can damage the liver (or at least gives it alot of extra work to do) drinking while on warfarin is a bad idea. Someone in this position should be honest with their doctor - there may be a medication that better suits the situation. ...Read more

Is it ok to drink beer while on warfarin? If so, hoe much is too much? And how is it ok to drink?

Is it ok to drink beer while on warfarin? If so, hoe much is too much? And how is it ok to drink?

Not a good idea: Warfarin is very sensitive to changes in the body, and to changes in one's diet or medications. If a person absolutely must drink alcoholic beverages, she has to work out a plan with her primary doctor to follow the changes in blood test results and adjustments in medication dose. That's probably the only way to figure out how much of an effect a given amount of alcohol has on one specific person. ...Read more

Can my husband drink Hibiscus Tea if he is on Warfarin. He take 5mg. Daily. His INR has to be 2.0 to 3.0...Thank you?

Not sure: I couldn't find anything specifically about HIBISCUS tea, but tea in general can both antagonize warfarin (lower the INR) and also promote bleeding by interfering with platelet function which won't show up in the INR. That said, I'll bet a lot of people on warfarin drink tea, so if he loves tea, I'd say use it cautiously and monitor the INR. ...Read more
