How much pain will I have after male breast reduction surgery? I need to go back to work as soon as possible, but i can't be on heavy-duty pain meds. Will the pain after male breast reduction surgery be manageable with aspirin or aleve (naproxen)?
Well tolerated: Although every patient has a different experience after surgery, most patients who undergo male breast reduction surgery tend to do very well from the discomfort standpoint. Much, of course will depend on the patient's specific procedure as well as concerns such as pain threshold. Worry re: withdrawl!: If the B. patch is taken off and no narcotics are given, the pt. will likely suffer withdrawal symptoms. The patch can be continued and the anesthesiologist can over ride the buprenorphine but must be careful to maintain respiration. After surgery the narcotics can be weaned of and the pt. can resume the bup. If patch is taken off, the pt. must be opioid free before re-starting the patch. ...Read more

Consult MD: Since both medications have a sedative effect, your prescribing md, with a full medical history can give the best guidance. Both anxiety and the "real pain" of surgery have a synergistic effect, it is best to treat both, as they are components in your suffering. Surgical pain responds to medicine, perhaps the anxiety component can respond to a psychotherapeutic strategy. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
