Sometimes scratching: itchy spots results in that area becoming hyper pigmented...a persistent stimulation of skin cells. It is called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Other causes could be a fungal problem called tinea versicolor. Acanthosis nigracans is a hyper pigmentation problem but tends to occur in skin folds. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low fat milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats.
