Ive had blood tests come up negative but some home tests positive i have all the symptoms and i had this discharge ?

Unclear question: Are you concerned about pregnancy? Did you have unprotected sex? Did you miss a period? If the answer to both is yes, do a home pregnancy test. If it is negative repeat it in 5-7 days. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine. ...Read more

Hi. I'm looking for a place in the Netherlands where I can have my blood tested for tannin intolerance. Do you know if blood tests for tannin tolerance exist? And if they do, could you perhaps help me find one in my home country?

I've been having increas

Be careful: "Tannin sensitivity" is a "pop" diagnosis that might just account for symptoms in some people. There are no evidence-based labs, and your best move is simply to keep a very careful food diary and experiment, staying as objective as you can, and recognizing that there are other causes of feeling generally unwell, from life situations to Addisons, porphyria, or a faulty home heater. ...Read more

Took 2 blood tests 1month after intercourse. It shows negative. Period irregular. Took 3 home test as well also shows negative. Can i still be prego?

No: No, you are not pregnant. These tests are very reliable, especially when you do five in a row. If you are trying to get pregnant and your periods are irregular, you might not be ovulating properly. If this is the cast you should see a gynecologist or a fertility specialist. This is usually an easy problem to fix with medication. ...Read more

Hi my blood tests showed that I am vitamin d deficient. My doctor is going to ring me at home. Do i not need to see him face to face? Thanks

Depends on Dr.: Most commonly, it is nice to see your dr. For a face to face discussion and evaluation. At 45, you may be nearing the "peri-menopausal" age and as hormones decrease etc, the incidence of osteoporosis becomes more prevalent. And, ...Vit d and calcium are important for good bone health. Always best to see the dr. And get the best of care you can. Good luck. ...Read more

I feel tired all the time, pressure/tiredness in eyes, sluggishness. Home sleep test/thyroid/blood tests all ok. Been going on for years. Any ideas?

Home sleep study : Out sleep apnea. You may still have a sleep disorder or a psychiatric disorder. Recommend a sleep medicine consult and a psychiatry consult. Your best bet if possible would be to find a psychiatrist also certified in sleep medicine so you can kill two birds with one stone. Best wishes. ...Read more

While waiting for my blood tests at the doctor's for STD/HIV, I've taken the OraQuick HIV at home test twice, and both times got a C (negative). can i breathe a little easy or should I not rely on it?

Most likely, yes: If performed properly, oraquick has shown consistently verifiable results. I'd await the results from your doctor just to be sure. But, all things being equal, the oraquick tests are as reliable as the antibody tests we use in the office. ...Read more

Sudden dizziness, arms felt cold, nausea, and feeling faint, so went to ER. EKG normal, chest X-ray & brain CT & blood tests ok but low potassium. Sent home. Can Low potassium cause these symptoms?

Sudden dizziness, arms felt cold, nausea, and feeling faint, so went to ER. EKG normal, chest X-ray & brain CT & blood tests ok but low potassium. Sent home. Can Low potassium cause these symptoms?

Not likely: Your symptoms & the rapidity with which everything seems to have come on speaks in favor of what we refer to as a VASOVAGAL reaction. For some reason you suddenly had a stimulation by the Vagus Nerve of your cardiovascular system which would've dropped your blood pressure & heart rate by a fair amount. Since you were sent home from the ER I'm sure your potassium wasn't THAT LOW to be of concern. ...Read more

Do i need to fast before blood tests?

Depends: Depending on what kind of blood tests are being done, you may need to fast. If you are having a metabolic panel, liver panel or cholesterol panel you will need to fast. Probably would be best if you check with your ordering physician to make sure that you understand what you need to do. This will make you avoid potentially abnormal results or the need for a repeat test later. ...Read more

What do you suggest if I have had blood tests and i think what do you suggest if I have a problem?

Interpretation: Just looking at a panel of tests can be instructive, but is a set-up for mistakes. The clinical patient story that goes along with them is important, so having a primary care doctor can help. Talking to a pathologist who understands testing can also help to resolve concerns or point you in the right directions. ...Read more
