Posssibly: There are many causes of low back pain and hip pain. Often they are related. A bad hip can cause buttock, groin, and/or thigh pain. Sometimes a pinched nerve in the back can cause back, buttock, and thigh pain depending on which nerve is involved. If your pain does not improve or gets worse you should contact your physician to help identify the cause.See 1 more doctor answer
Consult a physician: There many causes of both hip and knee pain. It is not unusual for knee pain to be referred from either the hip or the back and it is not unusual for hip pain to be referred from the back. For pain that persists it is important to seek the advise of an orthopaedic surgeon that can correctly identify the cause of the pain to make the correct recommendations for treatment.See 1 more doctor answer
Occasionally: True hip osteoarthritis causes pain in the hip, groin and buttock esp. W/ weight bearing. Occassionally in adults pain can be referred to the knee but this is unusual (unlike children where hip problems and knee referred pain is much more common).More commonly 'hip pain' in adults w/ concurrent pain to the knee is originating in the lumbar spine. I was a runner as a teen and notice that now running causes me hip and knee pain I never had before. Why is this and what can I do?
Weekend warrior: The most obvious answer is -- you are out of shape. You are still young, but not as young as you used to be. You may need to start slow and build up miles gradually. Also, stretch after warming up and after. With hip and knee (especially the outside/lateral part of knee) pain you may have a tight iliotibial band (itb). Google stretches for that. Good luck.See 4 more doctor answers
Does knee pain send pain to hips? I believe my left knee caused my left hip to hurt and most recently the opposite hip. Best exercise and treatment?
I started having knee pain and they crack all the time. My dr said I have fluid in my knees caused from being a woman and we have wider hips. Really?
No: Not sure what your doctor said, but what he/she probably meant is that kneecap (patella) pain is very common in young women given the angle that their quadricep muscle makes given relatively wider hips. This angle tends to pull the kneecap out to the side and that can cause pain. Simple knee stretching and exercises should help.See 1 more doctor answer

Uneve hips: You need to see an osteopath who does manipulative medicine, a chiropractor or physical therapist. Certainly uneven hips can cause knee and back issues as well.
