Probably not: What you're describing can be seen in various conditions including bacterial vaginosis and vaginal yeast infection. It is unlikely that your symptoms are related to your history of herpes . With herpes you would have symptoms of soreness tingling or visual lesions. However with all this said i would recommend that you see your gynecologist to confirm why you have what you have. Good luck. ...Read more

Genital herpes: This is often manifested by painful ulcerations and seldom by itching alone, but anything is possible. More likely that you may be having a local reaction to something you are coming in contact with (allergy to tampons, lotions, contraceptive jellies, condoms, semen, and so on and so on). This needs to be worked out by examination and tests on the discharge and cannot comment without seeing these. ...Read more

Repeated outbreaks are common. There is treatment but no cure. Latex condoms decrease risk. ...Read more
Tested positive for herpes, type 1- >8.0 ai herpes type 2- 3.7 ai does this mean by the level type 2 was recent? I heard over 5 means u had it longer
Reading Herpes Tests: I would caution you against these assumptions. These tests should be read and positive (one has been exposed and infected) or negative (one does not have evidence of exposure and infection). Trying to guess when one was exposed will never be correct from these numbers. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
It's an STD: Clarification to previous reply: "Active lesions" are not necessary to transmit. In people with HSV2, the virus is often present in the genital area without symptoms, and herpes often is caught from infected partners who don't know they are infected and/or who don't have an apparent outbreak at the time. Your partner also needs to be checked for infection, even if s/he hasn't noticed anything. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Contagious but...: Herpes is a contagious std which is at its most contagious when you have active lesions. When lesions are not present, the disease can still be contagious but less so. Things that can reduce the odds of spreading to your partner are avoiding sex with active lesions, using anti-viral suppressive meds daily (your doc can help with this) and condoms, but nothing is perfect. Ask again after you know the details. ...Read more
Acyclovir/ valtrex (valacyclovir): Depending on the severity and frequency of your outbreaks, different treatment regimens are used. Some people have such infrequent outbreaks that they are on no treatment at all. For frequent, recurring outbreaks, daily Valtrex (valacyclovir) may be used to suppress the outbreaks. For some people, instead of taking daily suppressive medicine, they begin oral Acyclovir or Valtrex (valacyclovir) at the first sign of an outbreak. ...Read more

HSV1, no HSV2: The results mean you are carrying herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1), usually from oral infection in childhood, so you probably have had it for years. But if you have had symptoms that suggest genital herpes, it could be a genital infection. You do not have HSV2, the usual cause of genital herpes. I takes up to 12 weeks for positive results, so these results do not exclude recent infection. ...Read more

Not enough info: The diagnosis of herpes is usually made based on painful lesions at the point of sexual contact and a history of potential exposure - scraping of lesions also can culture the virus, interpretation of blood tests depends on the timing (length of time between exposure or symptoms and the test). These results don't diagnose a recent infection, but can't interpret without more information. ...Read more
