Can Gout Cause Numbness
If I have lower back pain of late as well as sometimes numbness of my right toes, being a gout sufferer, what does this all mean?
Various Causes: Low back pain and one-sided leg, foot or toe pain/numbness could be related to a vertebral disc issue in the spine, or piriformis (buttock) muscle spasm, both of which can produce sciatica symptoms. Additionally, low back pain and gout in a young person suggests a suboptimal diet which may also raise the risk for diabetic changes in blood vessels of the feet (as well as eyes, heart and kidneys).

Black is not normal: Gout shouldn't cause black discoloration. It suggests some form of bleeding issue, whether it be related to bruising or an abnormality with the blood vessels in that area. Or, it can suggest death of tissue in that area, so called necrosis. Alternatively, if you are using a silver based dressing in that location it could discolor your skin. Nonetheless a healthcare provided should assess this!

The: The longer a patient has gout, the disease typically will involve more joints. It generally startes in the lower extremities (feet, ankles, knees), but can involve the upper extremities (hands, wrists, elbows). Shoulder symptoms are less common, but can be related to gout in some cases. I would recommend a thorough rheumatologic evaluation. If your symptoms are all related to gout, you may need to be on long-term gout medications such as allopurinol. On the other hand, the symptoms could be related to another type of arthritis (and possible muscle/tendon problems in the shoulder) and should be evaluated by an expert to make this distinction. Hope this is helpful.See 1 more doctor answer

Lab tests?: Gout is defined by a buildup of urate crystals in joint fluid and a very painful arthritis. There are definite ways to make the diagnosis, simply pain in fingers and/or wrist does not make this diagnosis, it takes more than that, usually a sample of joint fluid to analyze -discuss with a rheumatologist or ortho to Help confirm diagnosis

High uric acid:
Gout results from uric acid building up in your body. The most common cause of high uric acid is due to your body not getting rid of it properly. This could be because of your genes, your weight or kidney problems.

Almonds are healthy: Almonds are very healthy for us. They contain unsaturated fats, vitamins, particularly Vit E, and some protein. The protein almonds contain are not going to spike your serum uric acid, which provokes gout. Almonds contain oxalate, which can crystallize in urine to promote calcium oxalate stones. Be sure you balance your diet, eat well, drink 3 liters per day, and enjoy almonds-an excellent food.See 2 more doctor answers
Maybe: Some beans and nuts have high levels of purines, the precursors of the uric acid that causes gout. However, the effect of vegetable purines on gout seems to be less than those that come from meat. The best strategy in the long run is to eat a healthy, balanced diet and to take any prescribed medications for gout on a regular basis.See 1 more doctor answer
