I am on Xanax (alprazolam) I have tried weining my six week old to formula however it just causes her constipation pain! Breastmilk is the only thing that gives he?

Talk w/pediatrician: Please discuss this with your pediatrician. Your baby may not be ready to wean yet -- 6 weeks is very young. Or, she may be intolerant of some of the ingredients in the formula. There are many to choose from. Incidence of adverse events in infants exposed to benzodiazepines (like xanax) in breast milk, is low -- not zero, but low. Your bonding together is also very important. ...Read more

Is it bad to both formula and breastfeed the baby? Does it cause stomach cramp and constipation?

Not bad: Breastfeeding is best, of course, but there are reasons for supplementing with formula depending upon your personal situation. Why does just 1 cup of cow milk, and lactose free milk cause my son instantly constipated, but cow base toddler formula causes diarrhea after 1 cup.

Wrong Statement:: I think, your statement is over exaggerated. In reality it doesn't happen. Anyways, take your child to his pediatrician and explain in front! Diarrhea can be instant by definition, constipation is not. ...Read more

My 9 month old suffers from constipation and is on Lactrulose but it's not working? Would milk instead of formula help?

My 9 month old suffers from constipation and is on Lactrulose but it's not working? Would milk instead of formula help?

Constipation: Actually when you switch from formula to milk, I have found in general, that babies get more constipated. I like to use dark Karo syrup in the bottles and titrate to response. It is less expensive. If you do this, you need to stop the lactulose. Alternatively, call your doc and ask what to increase to on the lactulose. Obviously, add more fiber to the diet. ...Read more

Best formula for my baby with bad constipation.. Already tried soy milk?

Best formula for my baby with bad constipation.. Already tried soy milk?

Not the formula: Constipation can be a temporary finding in babies. Since they eat formula, the natural assumption is that formula causes constipation. However, it's best to have the doc look at the baby and determine if the baby needs testing for other medical conditions or try ways to soften the stools without changing the formula unnecessarily. ...Read more

One year old was on a soy formula and has been off for a little over a month. Been struggling with constipation since. What kind of milk would be best?

2% milk or soy milk: Some toddlers do get constipated from the casein in milk, especially if they are also getting a lot of other dairy in their diet, such as cheese and yogurt. Soy milk is ok to give, as it also has calcium and a complete protein. He needs at least 2-3 calcium/dairy/soy servings a day for bone health. You may improve constipation with giving prunes, bran cereal. Almond milk is low in protein. ...Read more

My baby has constipation problem. Which one formula milk is good, celia expert or similac advance or ronalac?

My 4 mth old formula fed baby has small, hard stools. She cries and seems to be in pain when passing them. Is this constipation? What can I do?

Constipation: Yes this is the most likely cause. I would recommend adding some more water to formula meals, increased water is the simplest way to help relieve constipation. Is similac total comfort a good formula for a baby with reflux and constipation? Which would you choose: similac total comfort or s26 gold ar?

Is similac total comfort a good formula for a baby with reflux and constipation? Which would you choose: similac total comfort or s26 gold ar?

Depends on concerns: Both formulas can be helpful with reflux but only similac total comfort helps with constipation. The s26 gold ar has added cornstarch to decrease reflux but this is still a cow milk formula. If your infant has problems digesting cow milk then the similac total comfort would be a better choice. Also remember that similac total comfort is formulated for 6 months and older. ...Read more

Do pea based protein shakes slow digestion or whey based? I've been struggling with constipation so want to avoid a formula that makes that worse.

Do pea based protein shakes slow digestion or whey based? I've been struggling with constipation so want to avoid a formula that makes that worse.

Pea better?: The main difference between pea and whey is that pea protein will not have the lactose issues that whey proteins will have. If you are lactose intolerant or have issues with milk products then pea proteins may be better for you. However if you use the pea protein in larger shakes you can still get GI issues such as bloating, gas, diarrhea and constipation. Smaller more frequent shakes will help ...Read more

What is the best milk based formula for a 1 year old with constipation because of whole milk? We already tried 50/50, prunes, and dc said back to form

I just have to say,: The best milk for an infant is breastmilk. No ifs ands or buts. Beyond that the best milk for your baby is the one that works the best for your baby. Unfortunately you sometime have to just do trial and error and find what works the best for your infant. A one year old can eat any food that you eat (but honey), and perhaps adding some probiotic to their diet will help.. ...Read more
