Stress affects most people in some way. Acute (sudden, short-term) stress leads to rapid changes throughout the body. These stress responses could prove beneficial in a critical, life-or-death situation. Over time, however, repeated stressful situations put a strain on the body that may contribute to physical and psychological problems. Chronic (long-term) stress can have real health consequences and should be addressed like any other health concern. Stress fracture in leg and twisted my ankle a month back. Cast is now removed, but there is substantial swelling at foot area. Is this normal?
Post cast Edema ?: Swelling after the cast is removed is quite common. It is known as post cast edema. Swelling is actually due to the cast's long term effect on the lymphatic vessels. Some edema might also be due to the actual damage to the soft tissue at the ankle level. Treatment with elevation, compression stockings and physical therapy would help stem the tide. ...Read more

Partial tendon tear or stress fracture in my ankle area on both legs. What can I do to heal it? How long usually does it take?
It can take a while: Tendons receive a relatively poor blood supply, and can take a long time to heal. You need to rest it as much as possible. As hard as it might be, what rests that area better than anything is a non-weight bearing cast, and even this may take a couple of months. Wish i had better news. Time ; patience: The treatment involves non weight bearing ; wait 4 it 2 heal which may take up 2 a year. As we r a walking people ; only 2 legs, that means crutches 4 a long time. I usually followed the progress using ct's as time passes. As the fracture line becomes poorly cn on x-ray, , ct will allow better visualization to judge healing. Bone scans will b+ 4 up 2 a year or more after healing. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Symptoms & imaging: Stress fractures usually cause pain, but may also cause swelling and discoloration. The nature of stress fractures can make them very hard to identify on x-rays, but some may be apparent based on their size or phase in healing. Larger stress fractures or those that have had some to start healing are often the ones that can be seen with x-ray. The most specific test for a stress fracture is a mri. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Stress fracture: Is not a complete farcture or broken bone. The evidence of a previous stress fracture can be picked up sometimes on xray, CT scan or even MRI. A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing.
