Can Folic Acid Affect Your Period
Folic acid, AKA folate (folic acid) (vit B9), is recommended for all women wanting to get pregnant -- 0.4mg (400mcg) daily, which is important for preventing birth defects like spina bifida. Women w/ a hx these disorders should take 10x that amt daily -- 4mg (4000mcg) through the 3rd month of pregnancy. It won't affect fertility, chances of conception/twins, or periods. ...Read more
Folic Acid, being a water-soluble vitamin, can not be stored by our bodies, so we need folic acid every day; you may need it even more when you are on your period!
Over 1/3 of people can not convert folic acid to the active form, L-5-MTHF, so it may be wise to take that form of folate. It is even better to make sure you get adequate folate from your diet- see http://bit. Ly/1tVLXJA ...Read more

Taking folic acid should not affect your periods. If you are planning to be pregnant, it is important that you take folic acid.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more
Since my last period I have started taking 5mg of folic acid. But my period this month was due 2 days ago?
I have normal cycle but after I started taking folic acid 5mg my period was preponed by a week and I again started after 3days of ending my period.
Doubtfully related: Folic acid is a B vitamin & is recommended for prevention of neural tube defects in pregnant women, for the treatment of folic acid deficiency anemia & a few other conditions. The highest dose recommended in adults is 1000 mcg/1 mg. Some have proposed high dose folic acid, such as you took, has unproven prevention benefits. Period may have been affected, though not usual effect. Would stop. ...Read more
Agree w Dr. Baker.: Folic acid is not the reason. Reasons for missed/late periods: low body weight, obesity, marked weight ^ or v, over-exercise, endurance athletics, breast-feeding, ^ stress, illness, eating disorders (bulimia or anorexia), anovulatory cycle (no egg released), travel, hormone irregularities, drug use, meds (i.e., birth control) or medical problems (i.e. Pcos). #1 reason is pregnancy. ...Read more

Folic acid 5mg cause spotting 2dpo untill next period. Happens everytime I take it but hv to take now bcos ttc. Can reduce dose to 400ug?
Consider 5-MTHF form: About 1/3 of people genetically have difficulty converting Folic Acid to its active form, 5-mthf. These people will benefit much more from taking that form of foiate- see www. Drdebe. Com/l-5-mthf-new-supplement-that-could-save-your-life. Html. There is evidence that folic acid, a synthetic substance, may be hazardous for many-see www. Drfuhrman. I was using folic acid for a month and at the same time I make love with my boyfriend without protection. Now I missed my period with three days?
Might be pregnant: Any time you make love without protection you might become pregnant (esp. Mid-cycle). Your period being late might be due to pregnancy but is not a sure sign; late periods can be due to other things as well. There is a very simple way to find out- take an over-the-counter pregnancy urine test! ...Read more
Is centrum safe while TTC? I've been taking it for 2 weeks now and I'm currently in my fertility period. I take a daily 400 mcg of folic acid too.
I started taking folic acid and a multi vit last month we ttc, I noticed that this month my period was longer than usual, is this a good sign or not?
Vitamins should have no effect on the length of your period. It is common for the length of periods to vary somewhat so this is almost certainly a coincidence.
Folic acid/multivitamins lower the chances of birth defects so are important to continue. It takes an average of 6 months to conceive and is not worrisome unless it takes more than a year. ...Read more
It is safe to take folic acid and B12 every day and esp. Wise to take folic acid regularly before you become pregnant. Over 1/3 of people have difficulty converting folic acid to the active form L-5_MTHF so consider a supplement that contains L-5-MTHF.
Also eat foods high in folate- see http://whfoods. Com/genpage. Php? Tname=nutrient&dbid=63 ...Read more
I haven't had a period in 3 months am on a lot of tablets for my pain I'm so tired all the time and my bloods are showing low folic acid and kidney bor?
Get lab work: No period for three months can be from the stress you have but I recommend getting lab work to confirm you thyroid, other hormone levels are fine. You should also have your ferritin, vitamin d and b levels checked because they are probably low contributing to your fatigue. Low Folic Acid should be replaced with Folic Acid 800mg daily. Not sure what kidney bor is. ...Read more
I stopped yaz one month ago. Period comes on 1st dec. I started folic acid monday 28th nov. Can I try to conceive?
O.K. to conceive:
It is O.K. trying to conceive after the last pack of birth control pills has been finished.
To reap the full benefits from prenatal folic acid this should be started several months before trying to conceive - ultimately it depends on a woman's folic acid stores. It will be difficult, though, to get a health insurance carrier to pay for folic acid levels. ...Read more
I am 32, I have had my period for 2 weeks and they are getting heavier. I am on Zanidip 20mg, Lexapro (escitalopram) 5mg, Folic Acid 5mg?
While we can't know: Every side effect or interaction between drugs, I doubt your menstrual bleeding is related to taking the calcium channel block Zanidip, Lexapro (escitalopram) (an SSRI) or folic acid. Heavy menstrual bleeding is more likely related to some hormonal imbalance. If it persists, see your OB/GYN or PCP. Tests may be needed (ultrasound) or possibly a low dose oral contraceptive to regulate hormones. Best wishes:) ...Read more

See you doctor: You need to see your doctor right away to determine the status of your pregnancy and also to see how your anticoagulant therapy should be managed. It depends on why you are on Coumadin (warfarin) in the first place and what your risks are during pregnancy. Many women will switch to injectable form of anticoagulant during pregnancy as these do not cross the placenta to affect the baby. ...Read more

Totally safe!: Folic acid is considered quite safe, in fact doses up to 15, 000 mcg/day are given for certain conditions and see well-tolerated. High doses of folate (folic acid) can mask B12 deficiency so it is wise to take B12 too. High Folic Acid may reduce zinc absorption so you might take zinc too. 1/3 of people can't convert Folic Acid to the active l-5-mthf so taking that form may be esp. Beneficial. ...Read more

My period is here early. And I'm on the birth control pills. Can taking folic acid and biotin affect it? And get pregnant?
Doubtful: It is unusual to get your period early, more than a day or two, when you are on birth control pills and taking them correctly. Taking folic acid should not influence this; biotin shouldn't either. If your question is, "Because I'm taking folic acid and biotin, is my period early and could that mean I am pregnant? ", the answer is no. Continue pills as directed. ...Read more
