Can a stomach flu cause just severe nausea for 24 hrs but no vomiting? Felt awful for 24 hours-like I was on the verge of vomiting but never did.
Every 2 months I get severe nausea & vomiting. All tests are 'normal'. Doc says its just bad luck w/ stomach flu. Could there be another cause?
Guy or gal? If gal, could be related to hormones, menses, ovulation (perhaps just from one of the ovaries, thus every other month). Check timing of symptoms with menstrual cycle.
Could be cyclic vomiting syndrome; could be other triggers for the symptoms, could even be migraine related. Could be other stuff too.

Nausea & vomiting every morning not pregnant. 4 months pp. Been twice to the ER in the last 3 months and the keep saying stomach flu. What is cause?
ER: This is not the place in which to undergo evaluation for a chronic process. This needs careful assessment with history, physical exam and labs and possibly endoscopy or other procedures and should be done by a doctor with the time and training to do this. My 2 year old grand daughter has the flu and is taking tamiflu (oseltamivir). Last night she threw up black gunk. What would cause this, and should we be concerned?

Stomach acid: Vomiting causes the contents of the stomach to be regurgitated back up the esophagus, into the throat and mouth. The stomach contains a fair amount of acid in order to help digest food. When you vomit, this acid comes up as well, and vomiting repeatedly can irritate the esophagus and throat, which is likely what you are experiencing. That is often a sx.: Gastroenteritis symptoms may include: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps/pain, headaches, muscular aches & pains as well as fever (low grade). Bloody stools are not usually associated with gastroenteritis. According to the CDC, viral gastroenteritis usually has a duration of 1 to 10 days (depending on the specific virus). No Worries : No more concerning than any episode of vomiting. Very rare but form of weakness progressing to paralysis and allergic type reactions are the major flu vax side effects. Vomiting is not related. I guess flu season is different down under as we are a long way from vaccine season. I spent two of the best months of my life in Sydney on a cardiology rotation.
