Can Eye Strain From Looking A Computer Screen For Too Long Cause Nystagmus
Examples are: colonoscopy for colon polyp or cancer; mammograms for breast lesions or cancer; psa a blood test that could indicate enlargement of cancerous prostate tissue; blood sugar or hemoglobin a!c for diabetes. Many think that scanning the whole body will pick up a cancer--in all likelihood, it will not. There also is no good blood test, yet, ...Read more
Is it possible that looking at a computer screen for too long every day, cause one eye to be constantly red?
Dry eyes!: Yes, concentration work such as on a computer can cause the eyes to dry and turn red. Start with artificial tears routinely (one drop 4 times a day every day), oral omega-3's, and warm compresses. Next, medicated drops (restasis, mild steroid drops, NSAID drops) or punctal occlusion may be helpful. ...Read more
Can staring at a computer screen for too long create a lot of stress in your eyes which can lead to pain?
It depends: If you are briefly checking email messages there is less likelihood of eye strain than if you spend an hour in front of the monitor. But if you have dry eyes or an uncorrected prescription (farsightedness, astigmatism, presbyopia), you may experience strain or fatigue much more quickly. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
You bet!: When we stare at something for a long time (computer screen, book, wall) we decrease the amount of blinking per minute. Blinking pushes water on the eye (reverse windshield wiper) to coat it. When you don't blink, the eye dries and sends a signal to the tear gland to produce more tears in order to protect the eye. It is a sign that you are staring too long. Try a break or artificial tears. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Perhaps: It is commonly believed that radiation from a computer monitor can damage the eyes. This is false. You may develop eye strain from prolonged computer time or your eyes can become dry and irritated, because you don't blink as much when reading or watching a monitor/tv. The monitor radiation itself will not damage your eyes, though. ...Read more
What do you suggest if I use a computer all day at work, can staring at a screen for long periods of time cause a strain on your eye and produce a twitch in your eye lid?
Too much LED: Watching too much led light is not going to make you go blind. However, it can cause your eye muscles to get tired, just as if you exercised for hours and your leg muscles got tired. That is eye fatigue. That in turn can cause eye twitching, just as muscles in leg can twitch if irritated/overused. Take 5-10 minute breaks every hour when using these types of technology to prevent this. ...Read more
No: Cataracts are the "greay hair" of the eyes. Everyone gets them as they age. Certain chemicals (steroids, chemotherapy) and exposure to high levels of ultraviolet radiation may speed up their development, but monitors and television sets do not emit significant enough amounts of energy to increase growth of catatracts. ...Read more

Vision issues: You may be getting eyestrain from prologed computer use. I recommend taking a 5-10 minute break every hour of computer use. You are on medications which may be contributing to it. If your symptoms persist, see your doctor. ...Read more
Does viewing a computer screen cause permanent eye damage/degradation at a faster-than-normal rate?
Will watching a computer screen for long periods of time during my youth increase my risk of blindness in the future?
Computer: I agree with dr chun. Also, take a break every half hour to look at something far away out the window. This relaxes the focus on the eyes to reduce eyestrain. Try to use an artificial tear, such as theratears or systane ultra, every 30 minutes to reduce dry eye, especially late in the day. Blindness is very unlikely from prolonged computer use. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
