Can Extreme Stress Cause A Type Of Encephalitis In Your Brain
No, no and no: Encephalitis means inflammation of the brain. Inflammation is almost always caused by infection. Encephalitis is usually due to viral infections. This notion of "stress" as the cause of everything bad is nonsense, or that "stress" in modern. You don't think the sight of a saber-tooth cat leaping out of the underbrush was stressful to our ancestors? ...Read more
Stress affects most people in some way. Acute (sudden, short-term) stress leads to rapid changes throughout the body. Almost all body systems (the heart and blood vessels, immune system, lungs, digestive system, sensory organs, and brain) gear up to meet perceived danger. These stress responses could prove beneficial in a critical, life-or-death situation. Over time, however, repeated stressful situations put a strain on the body that may contribute to physical and psychological problems. Chronic (long-term) stress can have real health consequences and should be addressed like any other health concern. Fortunately, research is showing that lifestyle changes and stress-reduction techniques can help people learn ...Read more

Does encephalitis just happen at any time? The virus you had in the past is dormant in your system then transfers and infects the brain of some people? Or does it more commonly happen in the new infections of the virus'?

Good chance: Depending on the severity of the meningitis, I have found that most of my patients do very well, and have a full, or near full recovery. Occasionally, there are cases that leave behind scars that can lead to seizures, or brain injury. However, this is best answered by the neurologist or neurosurgeon that was involved with the specific case, since there can be many factors relating to outcome. ...Read more
Infant plasticity: While an adult with an identical injury may be stuck when injured nerves cannot heal, an infant has better healing powers & may be able to rewire past injured areas. Since their system had not completed adult wiring at the time of injury their "plasticity" makes better healing possible. Sorry to hear that: Unfortunately, encephalitis contracted from any source (ticks, mosquitos, etc.) can result in neurological dysfunction. Had a weird feeling in my head for a few seconds. I had this once before Months ago. Is it a brain zap or dizziness? Can stress and anxiety cause it?
No way to know: It isn't reasonable to expect every transient symptom to have an exact precise explanation. Any answer would be an educated guess only. What it DOESN'T sound like is dangerous or worrisome so far. If it isn't any better or worse after 1-3 yr, it probably is nothing to worry about. But the person to listen to closest is the doctor who knows you personally. P.S. "Brain zap" is meaningless medically. ...Read more

I'm 18 and have been dealing with major chronic stress/ptsd for 5 years/still. I'm talking very intense. Will this cause me cancer or brain damage?
Not a linear thing: "stress" is an extremely variable concept, and there are no direct or automatic links between it and cancer. There are more clear relationships between certain behaviors like smoking, alcoholism, and exposure to toxins like asbestos, and cancer -- but even these are not 100%. Chronic stress can shrink the hippocampus area of your brain at least temporarily, but this can resolve. ...Read more
