Can Effexor Affect Your Period
My period is 4 weeks late I take Effexor (venlafaxine) XR but I have had some days I couldn't take it. Is there a way this was caused by not taking the meds?
Tapered off 150 mg of Effexor-XR (had been taking for 9 months) over a 6 week period. One month later still experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Unusual?
Not unusual: Withdrawal symptoms vary depending on the specific drug, how long you were on the drug, and how quick the taper was. For Effexor (venlafaxine) XR it would not be unheard of to have symptoms for 6 weeks or possibly a little longer. Let your MD know that you are still experiencing problems due to the changes. ...Read more

Skipped period and increased dosage Effexor (venlafaxine) XR could be making me feel unwell? Lethargic and depressed?
Effexor (venlafaxine) XR: I'm unsure if you mean you doubled up on your dose because you missed a previous one. Do not double up the next time you miss a dose. Continue with the regular dose at the next scheduled dosing time. Let your doctor know what you did and get some guidance. Good luck! ...Read more
19 yr. Old stops taking Effexor (venlafaxine) and her sex hormones drop to almost 0. After months still 0 and no period. How long before things get back to normal?
Zero?: There is no such thing as zero sex hormones. Is your partner consulting an md or do? If it's some other sort of 'practitioner' they are giving poor information. Although Effexor (venlafaxine) can affect libido, it doesn't change estrogen, Progesterone or testosterone levels to my knowledge. ...Read more

My period is 8 days late, lots of nausea, dizziness and exhausted. Am I pregnant? Do I need to stop taking my effexor (venlafaxine) until I know for sure?
No period in a year. Mri does not show tumor. Have have endometriosis. Meds: fentanyl, crestor, reglan, metformin, modofinil, nexium, fenofibrate, effexor (venlafaxine)?
Check labs see Dr: I would first rule out a pregnancy. I would then do some blood work like a thyroid screen, prolactin, fsh for menopause, and then an ultrasound after having a physical done. Depending on those results, a laparoscopy may be indicated. If the pregnancy test is negative, I would suggest a short course of hormones to make you bleed. ...Read more

I'm currently on 225mg venlafaxine, my period has gone from fairly regular to roughly every 2weeks, for past 1 1/5 months. Should I be concerned?
Do have an exam: Don't be anxious or fret if that's what you mean by concerned. But do have an exam. It's not likely to be related to the anti-depressant, but they do some strange things to some people. Let your doctor see what's going on. Mention all your meds and anything else that might be new in your life. I hope it's a simple thing and you get it straightened out. Best! ...Read more
I've stopped venlafaxine cold turkey (75mg for 2 yrs). Its been 2 months and I haven't had a period, could these be related? I am not pregnant.
Secondary amenorrhea: An uncommon side effect of those Rx's can be loss of period - I don't know about w/drawal as cause. Any other problems w/ cold turkey? If so, please get help. An OBGYN may eval the amenorrhea and help correct it - Some PCPs can handle both evals perhaps. It's not likely you can do much on your own - this is complicated stuff. I hope it goes well for you - are you glad to be off Effexor (venlafaxine)? ...Read more
Hello, I started with venlafaxine on January. My period was on the 6th and this month it hasn't arrived, I took a pregnancy test and came out negative?
Coincidence?: I'm not aware that Venlafaxine will cause missed periods. Generally a missed period or two is not necessarily concerning in itself. If you have no other symptoms you should see your doctor if you've missed your period 3 consecutive months (sooner if you have other symptoms). Of course, if you are having mood issues, this can sometimes affect your periods as well. ...Read more

Ever since I started taking the generic for Effexor (venlafaxine) xr, I've been getting constipated all the time. I haven't changed my diet either. Help!
Talk to doctor: In my practice, most antidepressants, including Effexor (venlafaxine) xr, don't usually cause constipation. You need to carefully discuss this with your treating physician. There may be other general medical illnesses going on, medication interactions, and so on. Treatments for constipation are very effective once the causes are determined.
