I was given Flagyl 250 to cure my ecoli infection. Is that the right strength? I remember being given Flagyl 500?

I was given Flagyl 250 to cure my ecoli infection. Is that the right strength? I remember being given Flagyl 500?

Wrong antibiotic: If you've been given Flagyl for an E. coli infection- that doesn't make proper sense, since it will not work against E. coli. I would call the doctor to ask 'what' they are actually treating and why. There are different doses of Flagyl (metronidazole) and 500 mg is a standard dose. Sometimes a doctor will dose adjust a medication depending on the patient and the infection. You need to get answers. ...Read more

Is Ecoli and another bacteria usually a kidney or bladder infection? I had really bloody urine. I have ic so symptoms are hard to distinguish.

Yes but not always: E.Coli is common cause of UTI. Bloody urine is common but not specific for any one bacteria. After ruling out infection, older patients must make sure blood is not from cancer or another cause. See your doctor. ...Read more

Doctor prescribed suprax (cefixime) 100mg twice a day for 6 days for ecoli UTI. Is this strong enough dose to kill infection? I am 40 yrs old and weigh 135lbs.

Likely: Suprax (cefixime) is a very broad spectrum antibiotic. It is likely to cover any bacteria that might be infecting your bladder. having said that, the best way to approach this is to do a urine culture and find out what bacteria is causing the infection and what anabiotic will kill it ...Read more

Had super bloody urine which was kidney infection Ecoli and another bacteria.Been drinking only water for 2 weeks.on meds. Can I drink Anything else?

Drink any liquid: As long as blood and symptoms are clearing up with antibiotics, it really doesn't matter what you drink. Some think cranberry juice or acid drinks help. More persistent bleeding would have to be checked out by your doctor. ...Read more

I suffered frm prostate ecoli infection n UTI frm Aug 2015. Semen culture report is -ve so antibiotic stopped frm 7 jan 16. my scrotum remain tight y ?

Sounds OK, but...: This doesn't sound like you have any serious ongoing problem. It isn't unusual for genital area discomfort ("tight" scrotum, etc) to continue a long time after this sort of complex infection. You're obviously under a doctor's care; ask him or her. If things remain uncertain and you have not seen a urologist or infectious diseases specialist, that would make sense as the next step. ...Read more
