Also beans, high fiber/whole grain bread, dried fruit, berries, nuts, plums/pears, apples, broccoli. Lots of water and exercise also help. Fiber is good but: If you are not drinking enough fluid it can lead to constipation. Remember caffeine and alcohol dehydrate and lead to constipation. Generally I recommend 80-100 ounces of caffeine free/alcohol free fluids every day. It will take 10-14 days of this regimen to see improvement. If not better need to have a GI workup for other causes of constipation. ...Read more

Constipation: Best thing to do first is make sure you are getting plenty of fiber intake and plenty of water. This will resolve most cases of constipation. If that does not work, you can add a magnesium supplement. I like magnesium glycinate. You can gradually increase the dose until your stools are soft.
