Doctor insights on:
Can Eating Too Much Fiber Cause Hemorrhoids
Low fiber diet and hard stool, *mild* stinging after passing a stool, &stress&anxiety do all those things sound like they could cause a hemorrhoid?
Yes. See your doctor: Your doctor will give you medication to clean out your intestine. Then you'll take a bulk laxative for at least 6 months to have peanut-butter consistency stools at least every other day. Sit on the toilet nightly for 15 minutes, 15 minutes after dinner. Chronic constipation causes anal fissures, hemorrhoids & stretches the walls of the colon, causing diverticulosis & diverticulitis later. ...Read more
Had banding and laser for internal hemorrhoids but been having difficulty healing cause of hard stools. I take fiber and stool softener twice a day, could the stool softener make it worse?
Soft stools: Fiber provides bulk to the stools but doesn't soften them much. Stool softener a like Colace have a mild effect. You should be taking stone fruits and their juices, consider PEG 3350 once or twice daily, milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) once or twice daily. Your doctor can help provide guidance. ...Read more
Can eating popcorn(air popped) worsen the hemorrhoids? I'm asking because popcorn has a high amount of fiber(which is good), but it's hard to digest.

Extreme hemorrhoid pain. Used all over counter products with no relief. Doubled my fiber for 3 weeks. Please help. Do I need surgery?
How long does it take for hemorrhoids to go away? (Or at least go down)? I'll admit I haven't drank much water recently or done fiber or suppositories
A few days ......: As you know, hemorrhoids are dilated rectal veins, like a varicose vein. Constipation, straining to defecate (usually due to constipation), poor fluid & fiber intake contribute. Soaking in a warm tub, increased fluids and fiber in diet, & using an OTC hemorrhoid cream containing hydrocortisone should relieve swelling and discomfort. I would give it a week; then see your doctor if symptoms persist ...Read more
Definately: There are other factors such as genetics, hobbies like cycling, pregnancy, jobs that involve sitting and lifting, but bowel regularity is the most common reason for hemorrhoids in america. Hemorrhoids are a result of the pressure that builds up in the abdomen for any of the above reasons. If you can decrease that pressure by fiber and regular bowel habits, you can prevent hemorrhoids. ...Read more
I have had an external hemorrhoid for over 2 months. Pain stopped after PrepH more water and fiber but I still have a pink lump. What can I do?
Can stress keep or inflame hemorrhoids? I've drank a lot of water, ate/drank fiber and whatnot. Not nearly as painful but still has slight pain.
No: Stress cannot directly affect hemorrhoid tissue. It can if the stress alters your oral intake and therefore your bowel consistency or habit. Be careful about blaming hemorrhoids for pain because that is unusual and often is something else like a fissure. An external hemorrhoid with a blood clot (thrombosis) can hurt but that is easy to diagnose as it is a painful lump ...Read more
Can mild internal (non-prolapsed) hemorrhoids heal on their own using conservative methods such as water and fiber? Or does that just ease symptoms?
Yes to both.: Hemorrhoids are a part of normal anorectal anatomy. When they swell, protrude, itch and burn, conservative care is most frequently curative. Sitz baths with Epsom salts 3-6X daily for 15 min each over a 1-2 week period is most helpful. Prevention by avoiding straining at stools with fiber and increased oral water intake is helpful. ...Read more
External hemorrhoid burst this morning. How best to heal it and keep them from returning. Upping my fiber, fruit, water, veggies, more activity too.
Thrombosed hemorrhoi: Sounds like u had a thrombosed hemorrhoid which burst open and releasesdthe clot. I would recommend soaking your bottom in warm water every day (×2) till it resolves. They may come back and I agree with everything you r doing. If you see a big clot still attached to it and its not going away, I would recommend seeing a surgeon to remove it. No need to put any ointment. ...Read more
I have internal hemorrhoids. They've been inflamed for over 2 weeks. I've recently eaten lots of fiber and drank lots of water yet I still feel pain.why?
Other factors: Internal hemorrhoids are normally painless. The reason why you may be experiencing pain has that you could be suffering with external hemorrhoids (which can cause pain.) Other conditions which can also cause pain include anal fissures. These are small tears in the anal region which can cause pain with bowel movements. It may be worthwhile for you to be seen by your primary care physician. ...Read more

I'm 28 yrs old drink 3-4 bottles of water a day have a good amount of fiber intake and hemorrhoids still flare off and on why? Is this normal?
I've been told I have Internal Hemorrhoids. Had them checked out (recently too). I eat fiber. Drink some water. EXCRUCIATING PAIN using restroom. Why?
Are fleet glycerin suppositories safe? I am having trouble going. Too big to pass and have hemorrhoids. Extra fiber and water is not helping. Do I use
Yes, but: I don't thing they would help much. Your best bet is to buy a few enemas. Follow the directions on the bottle. Try to hold the contents inside for as long as possible (1-0-15 min would be good) and then try to empty as much as possible. You may need to try again in a day or so. Consult your doc if this isn't helping. ...Read more
Had appy in March. Could it have messed up my bowels? Problem with constipation since. Linzess? Increased fiber too fast? Too big to pass. Hemorrhoid
Hemorrhoid grade 3, bleeds for weeks/months when pushed back, needs to heal: low fiber a few days? Witch hazel wipes? No constipation, good shape.
Do These In Addition:
Do these in addition: —
use a stool softener, use a sitz bath, reduce the amount & length of time you strain to give the hemorrhoids time to heal (having a bm every other day is fine)
drink a lot of fluids, eat fruits and vegetables. Sometimes, nuts (cashew especially) can exacerbate the condition, stay away from nuts. Decongestants could make things worse. Suppositories could help.
Good luck! ...Read more

Internal hemorrhoids haven't gone away. Drink lots of water and eat fiber. Doc sees no fissures. Hurts to sit and do it more often than not. Thoughts?
Really sick and tired of hemorrhoids. Is there a way to rid them for good? I drink fluids and eat fiber (yes I'm overweight). Doc says no to surgery.
Yes: Hemorrhoids are a normal part of our anatomy. We have three and each has an internal and external component. The treatment should be based upon each person specific symptoms. Internal component can be managed with minor office procedures such as banding but external component requires surgical excision if bad. Medical therapy can cause them to shrink but by definition they cannot "go away" ...Read more

Healing from hemorrhoid flareup, stool very random/loose. High stress/anxiety. Pain keeps going/coming back. Help!? Have switched to high fiber diet.
I would be intereste: In anxiety prior to flare. If alternating constipation and diarrhea could b irrtible bowel, a type of functional somatic syndrome. If pain persistent keep using the hemmorroid med, if u can't sit, may be a clot in hemmorroid. It can be hard to resolve without a procedure. You may have fissure in the skin. Treat flare, 2aleve 2x/day w/1gm tylenol (acetaminophen) 6hr. Anxiety 2B considered, tx may help ibs sx. ...Read more

Need exam first.: Blood per rectum may be due to a number of conditions. Although hemorrhoids are very common, you should undergo a thorough history and physical by a physician. I'm being treated for internal hemorrhoids but still have hard stools. I've been taking fiber and stool softener, what else can I try?
Mural ax: I'm a huge fan of miralax, (polyethylene glycol) it's safe, cheap and very effective.
